News has said Alcatraz is closed because it is a Federal park. Hopefully this will all get done and things will reopen and you can visit before you leave the area.

That's exactly right and what I said. :-)

Beth, your pictorial brought back memories of my visit to San Francisco so long ago. I ate Chinese and got sick from the MSG but it tasted good going down. I think we ate at that restaurant that is built like a boat.

Now Beth, our techno savvy leader, I want to mention something about your cable car turning sequence. It is called...VIDEO!

I would love to visit SF again if I ever get close again. If you have the chance, also visit Sausalito across the GG bridge. So pretty.

I personally prefer pictures to video, so don't often think of it until it's too late. Would have still taken so many pics, but should have thought of video - although uploading one that long - I would need to know I have really good connection and not be using MY bandwidth lol

I lived in San Francisco, in the Cole Valley neighborhood, until four years ago. Try to get to Tadich Grill if you get a chance. My office was close by at One Bush Street and we often went to Tadich's for after-work drinks. There is a set of twins named Marian and Vivian Brown who are about 100 years old and they hang out at Tadich's. They are always dressed to the nines and they flirt with the men. They are hysterical, and a San Francisco treasure. The best bakery is on the corner of Parnassus and Cole streets. Yum!

I heard recently that one of the twins, Vivian, passed on. Sad because they were a positive addition to San Francisco and wonderful ambassadors for the city.

Sandy, I'm sorry to hear about Vivian! It seems she had lots of fun while alive, so that's good. Do you know how old she was? I loved seeing their outfits!

Judi, she apparently died in her sleep at an assisted living center on January 9, 2013. Technically 85, she was only 16 days shy of her 86th birthday. Vivian was the older by 8 minutes and they were inseparable their whole lives. Apparently she had had a fall and went downhill after that for about a year and developed mild dementia. After her sister's death, Marian went with a friend to the Sir Francis Drake Hotel and toasted her with a Champagne cocktail. It's said they had 100 matching outfits.
