My sister, Ellie, got me hooked on the Nook, last summer when we were visiting in WY....Her's had the light up feature, which I liked....but, when it came time to buy, got the basic Nook, which doesn't light up .....that's okay....the price was right.... ;) less than a $100....but the next one I get will have the back light feature....

Anyways, I love it and like that having it as storing books got to be a pain....Ernie reads less than I do, so we can handle his "library", but most of mine is on the Nook...

I love the Nook - had the original one but have used it so much it is getting touchy about turning pages. Also the battery doesn't hold charge as long as it used to and even though the battery is replaceable it is no longer made and can't be found.
So I got a new nook - the Nook HD+ took it home read about all the bells and whistles realized I'd never use them so took it back and got the Glow Light $99 - love it. Easy to read outside and the glow screen is great at night. Has a lot of little features I'm discovering. Like a dictionary if I want to look up a word. And I agree about the shopping at midnight when you've just finished the first (usually free or really cheap) book of a series. And I like it because I can read books from our Indiana library while we're in Mexico.

My Mom borrows books from the library here in Fort Wayne for her Nook. I never really dawned on me to borrow books for an e-reader. I still think of libraries and the actual paper books. Guess libraries need to change with the times.

One reason I originally went with the Nook over the Kindle is because you could borrow books from the library. Kindle can do that now, also.

Hearing everyone's reasons for their choices makes it easier to decide. I have a tablet which isn't too bad weight wise. I can also prop it up using the cover. The one thing I haven't tried with it is reading outside and I've had it for at least a year. :o If I can't, they I'll be in the market for something new. Thanks for all the opinions, great food for thought. Linda

Linda, you can add all the apps to your tablet - two biggest being Nook and Amazon - so I'd try that first if you're happy with the tablet.
