Maybe you can make a trip to visit us at the casino? Unless it's too far? Would love to see you. I'll be leaving on Thursday to head south ... dang missing the "big" gtg, anyway!

Where is the casino? Saturday I will be heading back to the 5 fwy to get to the Tahoe area to pick up my 91 year-old mother. I'll be taking her to Santa Barbara for the wedding. My father passed away last Feb at age 96 and Mom needs some special attention. We can make the trip to Santa Barbara in one day and there will be very nice hotel accommodations waiting for us. Anyway, where is this casino? Sounds dangerous...

Rats! Since that is south of the GTG site and I'll be coming from the north I don't think that will work out. I'll be going across to the 5 fwy north of the casino. Maybe next time!

Judi - good for your mom. Has she been in the RV and camping with you before? My 94 year old mother has been in my RV for lunch but hasn't traveled in it. From Tahoe to Santa Barbara seems like a long journey in just one day even on Hwy 5. Drive carefully and have fun!!

The Mill Casino and RV Park is only 15.08 miles south of the GTG site. If you are cutting over to I-5 it is south of the Casino I assume you will be using Hwy 42. I understand you will be on the road just wanted to get you oriented ha ha Hope you have a safe trip.

Linda, my mom has not camped and we won't be camping on the way to Santa Barbara. I have a Roadtrek and that's just too cozy with my mother! We have made the trip down to Santa Barbara in one day before when my Dad was still with us and it was fine. We stopped at a pretty rest area and made lunch and took our time.

Karen, I was planning to take the 38 across to the 5 fwy - I have never been on that road. Is that not a good idea?

Judi, I don't know much about 38. I drive it once in my car and I think it is very curvy if I remember correctly. It follows the river so I think it is more scenic. I always use 42. Laura (cougarFan) has taken it I believe so she can let you know more about that road. I come from southern Oregon and I like 42 in my bigger rig, so I think one is scenic and one is just a better road.

Judi,
Taking highway 38 is kind of backtracking to go south. Karen is right, 38 is a more scenic drive but 42 is a better "rv" road. I drove 38 in my car but didn't look at it through "rv eyes." I do remember that is was a nice, relaxing drive but 42 gets you in a better position to go south.

Dang.

Sorry to say that I just called the "800" number to cancel my reservation at William Tugman State Park. The site I reserved looks really beautiful - C28 - and looks like it would have been in the heart of the "action".

I was really excited about this - I have not gone camping in probably 20 years or so, and never camped solo.

I have been checking the reservation site every day just to look at the photo of the campsite!! Unfortunately, the amount of rain predicted has put me off - I don't have a full-size RV, just a converted cargo van (that I just finished doing the conversion last weekend!!), so it is very small. I would be traveling with my two medium-sized dogs as well and was imagining taking them out to do their "business" and then bringing them back inside to shake off muddy water onto. . . well, everything, from the front of the van to the back and everything in between (my dogs are great shakers!!).

I don't think I could carry enough towels to keep them, me, and the walls, dry.

If this wasn't to be my very-first-ever trip in my van, this probably wouldn't bother me, but there you go.

I hope all of you have a GREAT time, and post lots of photos and stories about the "event".

I will be bummed out all weekend, and wishing I was there.

Thanks to all for a great website, WomenRV!! Hope to meet you all "on the road".

Best wishes,

Anne

Anne, could you maybe get a canopy to set up right at your door. That would give you an area to towel the dogs off.

Oh that's too bad Anne but I understand about the rain. This is Oregon and the weather is never a guarantee. I'm sure this won't be our last gtg so maybe you can make the next one! There are also mini-gtg's here on the west coast so watch for those.

I'm here, less than 8 miles away on the coast and the weather is good. (Monday)
Tuesday...It rained last night. Overcast as of 8:15am. But it feels like it will be raining on and off today.

Ackkkk - I found out today that I have to have a root canal and it should be done before I leave for Santa Barbara. I have never had a root canal but I'm nervous! I don't like pain! I'm going to keep my Friday night reservation for the GTG since I don't know yet when the dentist can fit me in and hopefully I will be able to be there on Friday.
