This is the EXACT place to whine. We all need to whine sometimes and we all sympathize with you here. Mostly due to dog hair I use machine washable throw rugs. Why does it sound like I let my dogs rule my life? They do!

Well....as long as it's OK with you.
Nothing new to whine about right now, but I'll keep looking and thinking about it and obsessing.
Something should turn up soon.

Poor Scarlett. Poor Nikki for witnessing :(

Just a suggestion for breaking her of jumping, should work on any bad behavior per a dog behaviorist (like an advanced trainer) I knew - - -
Teach the dog the behavior. I know you want to break her, but if she learns to do it on command, then you don't give the command in the future.
Obviously the pup has to know commands, but it's like reverse psychology.

Thank you so much for asking about Scarlett. She took her last pain pill yesterday and she seems to be doing well. The women at doggy daycare, the two who have chihuahua companions and are working with Scarlett, have been teaching me how to control her. Turns out that these dogs need a firm hand, and getting it right is a bit of an art. Stubborn and persistent hardly cover this dog's singleness of mind. So I'm learning to be the boss in a way Scarlett respects and that doesn't make me feel like a shrew. I just can't do angry and demanding all the time. Her jumping behavior is still a challenge. I'm working out ways to minimize the triggers. When she does jump I just stop whatever is triggering her and let her know that jumping is not acceptable and that nothing is happening until she settles down. Or, if she's jumping because she's excited to see me, I sit on the floor and snuggle with her. No more turning my back and ignoring her. She settles down quickly enough and I can't risk another noggin crash. Thanks again for asking.

Glad to hear she's doing better at doggie daycare, just hope you getting on the floor to settle her down, isn't rewarding bad behavior. You'll figure out what's best for your 4-legger, just have to find the right buttons to push with all of them I guess. :P
