bought my dream RV

Wow, I did it. I sold my house in one day (one day1) and have already signed the P & S. With that out of the way I dove right into my RV search and found one I'm in love with. Diesel, 27 ft l, 7.5 ft w. Should be able to managed this one, and yet feel like I've got a complete home. Class C, Gulf Stream Vista Mini Cruiser, queen bunk over the cab, nice back room with loads of cabinets & storage, sweet dinette with huge window. End of season so I was able to negotiate $7K off the asking.
(Now I'd put one of those smilies here, but I don't know how :0)

I'm on serious fast forward what with getting moved out of my house and into the RV. First thing I want to do is having a railing installed on the over cab bunk. I am glued at the hip to my dogs, who always sleep with me. I don't want any of us falling out of bed, although I'm always more comfortable sleeping 'up' or on top bunks, which is why I loved the full queen over cab.
Any ideas about how to go about the railing installation?

Congrats on the new RV.
When my kids were little and finally moved into a real bed, I bought railings that the curved end slipped under the mattress. No real install and they worked just find for them. Google bedrails.

I understand the concept of the cab-over bunk and have traveled in one, so the only thing I might try is to have something made that has "feet" that will slide under the mattress so that you don't have it permanently attached. My thought is that you probably only need it for the head of the bed, so having something that can slide up and down the length might work. If you know of any kind of metal fabrication place that's where I'd look. You'd want the feet to be long enough to hold it in place and yet thin enough so that you don't feel them. And maybe you'd want them on a hinge so that you could fold the whole thing up and store it on the bed when you're not using it. Wish I could draw -- I know exactly what I'd have made if I felt the need for one.

I bet your pooches will do just fine up there without any barrier-- they're probably more sensitive to the height than you'll be. You may even want to try it before going to the hassle of getting something made.

Oh how great it is that you have finally found the rv you are in love with... what is your first name? sorry if I have missed it...
I have a 27ft Jayco Eagle and love it... it is just right for me and Shadow... when we had a tt my son built a rail he made it so there were two pieces on the bottom that slipped over the wood box that held the mattress... my grandson Mark slept up there on the way back to Mi from Fl when we moved... a caravan of 3 vehicles... long ago in the mid 80s...

Another thing you might try is one of the stretchy net things. It's hard enough to get in one of those bunks without having to climb over a railing. I don't know how you would attach it. Maybe attach it to a pole that could be put under the mattress and put a hook on each wall to attach the top.

They make railings to keep kids from falling out of bed so you should be able to find one of those. I had one when my kids were little.

In the semi sleepers we had a net made from seatbelts that bolted in along the mattress and had like two seat belt clips at the top corners. Climbed in and snapped up the net and you were good to go. You could probably expand on that idea with a cargo net to keep everyone in while sleeping. Since you will not be moving, just keeping "the furry kids" from falling out it would probably suffice. Much easier to climb over.
