It's still a dream...but I am learning all I can

Come on in and say hello.

It's still a dream...but I am learning all I can

Postby MaryG » Thu Sep 05, 2013 6:43 pm

Hi, I am Gail and my dream of being a fulltime RV'ing woman helps me keep positive during these last years of caring for my parents. Dad has passed recently, my Mom has
Alzheimers. I am the only child, so it is a full commitment so Mom can stay in her house. I just started my "notebooks" of info and joining forums, etc., about a month ago. I was very happy to find this forum and I had 30 years in Oregon before becoming a caregiver. My boys and I did it all, skiing, fishing, tent-camping, boating. Being able to move about freely and live close to water and see wildlife again is deeply imbedded in my soul. I will enjoy reading all of your comments and will provide links of info if I think I have something to contribute!

Hi Gail, welcome to the forum. There's lots to learn here and lots of very experienced women to ask for guidance. Hope to meet you on the road some day.

Welcome to the forum. Before anyone drives off down the road in their rig, they have to start with a dream. Sounds as if you have wonderful memories of the past that remind you of the possibles. Let them keep your motivations awakened. The research and the looking around at all the choices is the beginning of the adventure.

Welcome! There are several of us on here in the same, or similar, situation you are in, caring for elderly parents. It is tough, to say the least!

Lots of information on here, so ask lots of questions! I am still learning and waiting for my turn at life on the road RVing.

Are you still in Oregon? Do you have any pets?
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Thanks, everyone, for the warm welcome. @Barbara: I moved from my home in Oregon 6-1/2 years ago to help Dad care for Mom....I retired early and got a couple PT jobs here...one screening newborn babies for their hearing. Then Dad got sick and gradually I had to give up the jobs. I left my dobie, Jack, in Oregon with my son and he passed away this year from old age. I currently have a cat my father had plucked out of a feral litter. She's half-wild. When I sell this house, it will have to be "must love cats". No way Kitti-Poo would travel. There's also a farm near Fresno that has 900 rescue cats that I think she might like. When I'm able to, I am thinking of getting a miniature Dachshund as our family pet years ago was a Doxie and loved to travel.

Welcome from the central coast of CA . Are you still in Oregon? There is a gathering later in September in Oregon.
