Gnats are driving me buggy!!

Postby JudyJB » Wed Sep 04, 2013 12:33 am

I have been in Wyoming and Montana for several weeks and little gnats are driving me absolutely nuts. They are very hard to swat because they are tiny and fast. I think they are even slipping through the wires in my electronic swatter.

I did have some tomatoes on my counter and then some bananas, but not in the last week. The little critters seem to want to land on any food I am eating and hover around my computer screen and Kindle at night. They don't bite, but I am beginning to feel really "buggy" like they are landing on me all the time, which they probably are not doing. Just found one on my wet dishcloth and did squash that one.

Anyone know of any traps I can use? I don't want to spray the inside of my motorhome but I might get desperate.

Some time ago omeone on the forum suggested a solution to this that I have tried with success. Put an empty wine bottle on the counter with just a tiny bit of wine left in it and they will go away. I don't know why or how this works, maybe all gnats have taken a vow of sobriety and they don't want to be tempted..

Well crap! Guess that means I'm gonna have to drink that huge bottle of Moscato today 'cause I have them here in Arkansas, too!

A shallow bowl with apple cider vinegar and a dot of dish soap! Works like a charm!

The cider vinegar and drop of dish soap is working for me too.

Well, by all means, open that bottle of wine! I however, prefer NOT to share my wine with gnats! So I'll stick to the cider vinegar for them!

We need a helpful hints topic. There is so much good info in this forum but if I had a gnat problem I wouldn't necessarily search it here. I would keep swatting. A local restaurant had dryer sheets tacked up all around their walls. Said it repells flies.

Thanks for the advice, but I'll try the vinegar so I don't have to drink a whole bottle of wine by myself.

I did find some advice about garbage and fruit on my counter, so from now on, I will bag up my garbage immediately after dinner, which is when I produce most of it. And I will also put all fruit in baggies from now on. No more letting dirty dishes sit, either.

So maybe all of this will work. A fly I can seem to swat easier, but those little gnats are speedy and sneaky!! Either that or I am just getting really slow.

Tried this in Boy Chicks house and it works like a charm! Thanks....Didn't get the bottle finished so guess I better put a bowl in here, too.
