Personally, I would go with a small B for me. It is totally a personal decision. My friend chose not to do reconstruction and she is fine with that.

Here is a link to a photo...

Barbie, how long ago did she have the mastectomy?
I'm just wondering if it's been too soon to want to have boobs back?

I saw that photo. Kinda made me lean toward reconstruction with an "A".

It has been about 20 years for her. She originally just had one removed and then it came back in the other one a few years later and she got that one removed, so in my humble opinion, it is worth just getting them both removed to begin with.

I just posted a link to a photo on my previous post...

Go for the perky A's or B's and have it done at the same time as the surgery to get rid of the "yucky ones".....my options a month ago before the kidneys were ruled "OK" was to do it at the same time along with the ovaries....One surgery for 2 procedures.... ;) But it is your choice.....and this is just my 2 cents... ;)

Check out the tattoo options, a very beautiful one was circulating on web a couple years ago, can't find it now.

I didn't know they could do reconstruction at the same time as the mastectomy! A friend of my daughter's is going through reconstruction now a couple years after the mastectomy and doing well with it.

If I had to go through a 2nd surgery, I doubt I would consider reconstruction - I am a sissy when it comes to medical procedures. Took me 16 years to get around to having a colonoscopy!

Mitch, always love your sense of humor, but so glad to see it now!!

I think it is easier to do the reconstruction right away since they have the leftover tissue (skin) there for it, otherwise they have to stretch the skin later or take it from somewhere else.

When my sister had her mastectomy 7 years ago she chose to have reconstruction surgery at the same time. She suffered horrible from that and had the implant taken out several months later and has never regretted that decision.

Oh dear I hope you didn't find my post to be negative. She found the implant to be painful. As I recall the surgeon advised her to wait longer before removal to give her body time to adjust. She chose to remove. She wears a prosthesis and for the life of me I cannot tell which is original and which is false.

When Jean was going through her treatments, one of the nurses showed me a pic of herself post breast surgery. It's on the net somewhere, but I'm not sure where to look and have limited time now.

I'd go for reconstruction at the same time with a to b cups. One advantage of a cups, I still am braless, haven't owned one in years. A disadvantage, every pound you gain makes your belly stick out further than your boobs. I say as I eat a cinnamon roll in order to get internet and post!

Well now----I go away for a short while and discover that Mitch is about to be able to toss away all those heavy-duty over-the-shoulder-boulder-holders I have hated since I first grew my boobs! And, to top it all off, she will instantly drop a number of pounds to boot! As for any reconstruction, I'm not sure what I would choose, as my dream has always been to be able to run around topless as I did prior to my dreaded puberty! I did love the tattooed lady who had the double mastectomy whose picture was sent on Facebook a while back----very pretty and very possible to go topless and still be in fashion!

Of course, I am keeping in mind that the lymph nodes are still free and clear, and so I have no doubt that you will live to be a ripe old age where, if you still were carrying around those pesky weights, you would have to roll them up to keep them from hanging down your pants' legs or peeking out from your skirt hems! Easy for me to say, of course, as I still have not had my mammogram yet this summer, but upon hearing this news, I know I MUST schedule one as soon as possible. Especially since my mom had breast cancer. Thanks for this not-so-gentle reminder, Mitch!

As someone (Wendy, I think) said, keep us ABREAST of things and remember to post often no matter what your emotional state may be! :) Lord knows we all have days when we think we can't take any more, whether it be breast lopping, heart scares, migraines, bone breaks, eye and/or ear failures, fear we are getting senile or Alzheimer's, and even hangnails can sometimes put us over the edge when things pile up! We will all be right here listening and pulling for a safe and quick and easy healing process. (And, if you opt for a tattooed chest area, I will volunteer to design one for you! EEEK!)

Hang in there until you no longer have to hang! Wine helps with the waiting! Let us know what we can do to help. Wish I could take Abby while you are hospitalized-----do you have any family who could come stay with you and Abby for a while?

My friend Phyllis flew down (from Chicago) Monday night so she could go to the doc with me.
She just left.
She will fly back for surgery and plans to stay a week.
Oh, how I cried as she pulled out of the driveway...

You cry as you need to. Wish I was closer. And as soon as I'm back in the lower 48, you can cry, vent, scream, etc to me all you want.

And bless Phyllis.
