I also know several people who have survived this cancer, but of course, no one wants to have to go through all of the surgery and worry.

And they can also do a reconstruction while they are at it, so you can brag about having a boob job!

I don't know what to say without seeming maudlin or trite. But I am thinking of you, and sending a prayer your way.

I had a good friend that was diagnosed in her mid-sixties, followed by mastectomy. A vibrant, exuberant, strong and testy woman. She lived another 35 years disease free.

The darkest night is always followed by a bright dawn, even if you do need a flashlight for a little while.

I saw this on FB already so I'm late on here. I'm glad you've got your sense of humor back. Another thing to add to your list; no more wet, sweaty bras in the summer. Now you can take up marathon running.

I thought of another good point, too - when I'm laying on my side in bed, Abby won't walk on them. THAT hurts!
Can you imagine having boobs big enough that your dog can walk on them while you're on your side???

I'm struggling now with RECONSTRUCTION or NO RECONSTRUCTION. Any opinions, either way?

Insurance must pay for reconstruction on the non-effected breast, but we don't know if they'll pay for a mastectomy on the same breast, if that's the way I chose to go.

Yesterday, I told the surgeon to just get rid of them - traitorous little bitches that they are. Now I wonder if a cute little perky A would be good. I honestly can't decide and I don't know what factors I should consider in making my decision.

I asked the surgeon what the odds were of getting cancer in the other breast. He said that like other people, I now have the risk factor of "breast cancer history" in the family - the "family" being me.

Too much to process all at once.

Decisions Decisions... don't ya just hate em. However, if it was me I would have the reconstructive surgery. It is totally a personal choice of course. They have so many more options nowadays so that it is totally not noticeable (If you care) with variable apparatuses you can wear. I wouldn't like that I am sure. I am not fond of my bra. (invented by a man I am thinking) I would embrace a perky new set lol Making lemonade out of lemons comes to mind ha ha

Because I've always been fighting gravity in this department, I would definitely go for the nice, perky A or B. I hate bras. At this point they are only anti gravity devices for me. Just my opinion.

You're young and have many more years ahead of you....make them as worry free as possible. get rid of both of them (if the crappy insurance will pay, and I'm sure the doc knows how to word it to make it happen) and get a couple of cute litle B's. They will be your reward for having to go thru this in the first place.

While I know next to nothing about reconstruction, it does seem like I remember important benefits for muscles groups when reconstruction is sooner rather than later. Might be worth some research. Aside from that, perky is good! And nice to stay in balance.

Yesterday, the surgeon said some women opt to have reconstruction at a later date (as late as several years, if I recall correctly.) Others opt to have the reconstruction at the same time as mastectomy surgery.

IF I go with reconstruction, I would choose at the same time. I would not want to look forward to a second surgery (and have to impose on my friends YET AGAIN...).

I'm trying to find pictures of women with NO reconstruction...
