Mitch-
On my pickup I have a Soft Topper over the bed. I need a "covered wagon" only some times and this really fits the bill.
I can put it on (or take it off) in about 5 mins - by myself. It keeps things under cover and dry, but just folds out of the way if you want it to.

When I was looking for shells or whatever, these were much less expensive, and as I said, I can do it ALL BY SELF!
I don't an army to move it or some place to store it.

Not sure if they make these for your buggy, but check it out!

Vicki

P.S. I always thought 5'4" was tall

Vicki, your avatar makes you seem tall!

I really don't want a soft cover because it could easily be broken into (so I think...is that true?).

These rolling aluminum ones also roll out of the way. When I get more familiar with the truck, I'll probably have a better idea.

Mitch, here's a link to some pictures of my last big truck, fully equipped with running boards and tonneau cover.

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4937&p=58720&hilit=Meet+Big+Red#p58720

The running boards were dealer installed and the tonneau cover was this one:

However, those types of tonneau covers are not lockable. If you want better security, then get a truck cap as some of the others have said.

Oh and I don't consider 5' 475 inches short. That's "fun size" :)

Another purdy red truck. Why did you get rid of it, Sue?

LOL - that's a good question. The answer, for me anyway, is I would just use the stool to reach into the truck bed!!

Now, after having recently gotten stuck behind the clothes dryer, I don't go back there without 1) a phone, and 2) a stool with a bungee cord attached to it. The bungee cord allows me to pull the stool up after I have extricated myself from back there...(shut up, Vickie!)

Just think, Ms. Vickie - NO MORE HAVING TO WEIGH EVERY LITTLE THING!
One less thing for you to make fun of me for...

That is a nice set (of wheels). What a relief not having to weigh everything. Still, that doesn't mean you have to take it all. Linda

Not to take away from your purrty new truck, but either Dodge or Ford has a built in step in the back bumper of their pickups. Just saying.

You don't really hear about convertibles being ripped to shreds these days. The whole idea of these covers is to keep the stuff in the bed dry and hidden. I looked at the soft sided covers when I got my pickup and liked them. I also realized that I don't carry anything in the bed for any length of time, other than the camper. If I buy something large, I'm usually going straight home, not still shopping. If you don't plan on taking the cover off, then go for one of the hard sided ones. JMO, I like the shell over the tonneau cover. Linda

Our F-450 has the step that comes out of the tailgate & the fold up/down grab bar (or as I call it, the pole for a short stripper @ a tailgate party). the only problem is that you can't use it when hitched to the RV.

Not being vertically challenged in the same way many of you are (5'8"); my eyes have been opened by all the comments about stools. And I thought whacking my head getting into my drivers seat was a problem.

JoanE, next time you reach up and get something from a cabinet or turn on a light on the ceiling, think of us short folks hopping up and down to reach such things! Bumping your head as you get in does not sound like fun, either.
