Am so "DONE' with the "Vampires"....

Postby rvgrammy1953 » Tue Aug 27, 2013 6:53 pm

I had 2 more Drs. appts. to attend as of this morning....one today and another on Thursday...then we can "hit the road"....Well, after the visit with the Hematologist today, I am so DONE with folks coming at me with "blood drawing stuff".... I mean give me a break....I have small veins to begin with...plus, they have a mind of their own when attacked by a Hypo to draw blood or set an IV...( 9 sticks to start an IV for my surgery 3 weeks ago.....  ) So, since my nerves and emotions are "skin deep" right now, my tolerance is not well at this time....3 sticks in drs. office, and no luck for the blood test...so have to go to the local Hospital Lab tomorrow for them to take 2 tubes of blood....I mean "almost sobbing my eyes out" for this.....  (which did happen for the IV at the hospital for surgery.) So, have decided after tomorrow, no more blood tests until next spring...unless it's an emergency....  or until my nerves are better...

Thanks for letting me VENT....I feel better now.... ;)

Oh, sweetie, you made my stomach turn with your description.
I am sooooo sorry! Just be glad it's almost over. Luckily the pain fades in your mind, right?

20 years ago I had a blood clot and spent 10 days in hospital. They had to draw blood every 4 hours and after a couple of days the "vampire" ;) as you describe the tech was actually apologizing from the moment they entered the room. I was black and blue in both arms from being stuck so many times.

There are some people with a gift for finding a vein and others that have no right to stick someone.

Good luck and hope you feel better about it.

Oh Lori, 9 sticks in the hospital that seems unexcuseable!!! I ask for someone else if the fist two attempts fail and usually the tech person is relieved. I don't blame you for saying NO more! ((((HUGS))))

Know how you feel... I too have small veins & getting blood drawn is always a trauma for me... but they have to know what's going on & I guess blood tells the story. You've done great so far so pull up those big girl panties & take a deep breath & just remember tomorrow is another day... the sun will shine, the coffee will smell great & you've got your better half right there to hug.... You'll get through this... and of course, vent anytime ... everyone's here to listen & comfort you...God Bless

so had this port almost could say through there is the vein but its fading dang and have to remember that the left arm is not useable :)
if they don't get it in a couple a tries ask for someone else they will be relieved and there is always the little butterfly ones they are more painful but get it done quicker and enjoy the next trip

Ouch, I so feel your pain. Glad this string of events is close to over, Lori.

Years ago, it was missed attempts at getting blood from me in a doctor's office that is believed to have caused my month long hospitalization with hepatitis. So multiple attempts scare the bejesus out of me - as during that month, I was stuck everyday and sometimes two and three times a day. Oh joy. Luckily, my veins are usually just fine for must to stick right the first time.

Big hugs, Lori.

Ouch!!

That's the problem with medical procedures -- you need to be at the top of your game to deal with them. Cosmic injustice, I tell you!

Hang in there Lori. I, too, have difficult to find veins. I'll allow two sticks then DEMAND someone else. Stay away from the doctors; first thing they learn - first thing they forget.

As most of you know I am a nurse. I have to stick Big people and Babies. I prefer babies LOL. Most places I have worked 2 sticks is all you get then someone else gets to try. Some people just have crappy veins (myself included). When I get my labs drawn I request a Butterfly in the hand or wrist. I think the stick feels the same and they do not have to "dig" around for my veins. My antecubital (inside elbows) just do not cooperate, they are deep, and move. Have had excellent luck with the butterfly sticks.
