Xanax is good stuff - got me through my booby MRI a couple of weeks ago. I'm now on an alternating schedule of mammo and MRI - one of each once a year so I go in for something every 6 months. I'm considered 30% risk in my lifetime so I want to catch the little buggers early if they try to attack!

and the stuff they gave me for "post-op" pain is pretty good, to... But trying not to take it anymore...just Aleve...

I am thinking my dad is loving his Xanax a little too much these days He's popping them like candy! Just hoping he doesn't start drinking again...

I have some left from back in January when I was having panic attacks. I split the tiny pills into quarters and only take one quarter at a time, or I end up in la-la land!

I did the same thing when I took them years ago when I first was dealing with being chemically poisoned at work. Doctors just dIdn't believe me when I told them that dose was enough!

Some of us are really sensitive to medications. CarolD did not share her experience while under the effects of Ativan but I had numerous hallucinations while in Cardiac Intensive Care just after my surgery. There were dogs, clowns and shelves sliding down the walls. At first, I thought the dogs and clowns were actually present. By the time the shelving started sliding down the walls, I knew it was a hallucination but it was no less enjoyable to watch them. Sure did give me something to concentrate on besides my battered body.

When my Dad was coming out of his open heart surgery, he swore up and down 1) that the doctors wheeled him into a bar and had a few drinks while he was laying on the gurney, and 2) that Floyd Kalber (a now deceased famous Chicago newscaster) was trying to sell him car paint and to show Dad how safe it was, he (Floyd) painted his face blue, and 3) a train was running overhead in his hospital room.

To the day he died, Dad was positive the docs had him in a bar!

George had none of that from his open heart surgery. From his dementia, yes, but not the surgery!

Xanax is nasty stuff. My aunt was addicted to it, as was my brother. The addition rehab people told me it was much more difficult to come down from Xanax than heroin or some other stuff.

Also, BarbaraRose, your dad could fall from all that stuff. I know my mother was on a lot of it at the end, but she was in a memory care facility and constantly monitored.

He already has... After reading the side effects of Xanax recently, I think a lot of his symptoms, including the seizures, confusion, dizzy spells, legs giving out on him, etc, are from the Xanax. Sometimes when I talk to him on the phone, he sounds drunk, but I am sure it is the drugs. I think he is probably substituting that for the alcohol he can't get ahold of now.
