I don't think so. Dogs must be on a leash at ALL times is the only rule I know of. No problem here my dog is always on a leash. What kind of dog do you have?

Hi Cudedog,
In the Oregon State Parks there are no breed restrictions but they need to be on a leash at all times outside your rv. I believe you can tie them outside as long as you are out there with them. I would imagine that if any dog were a nuisance or aggressive towards other campers, regardless of breed, the rangers could ask the person to leave. As long as they are behaving, you should be fine.

Ladies, I thank you.

I am in No. Cal, so I am thinking about coming to this GTG. Most of the others seem really far away. I think I could get there in a long day's drive.

Still finishing up my DIY van conversion, but it should be finished (or finished enough) by then. It will be my maiden voyage, if it works out!

The only time my dogs are ever off leash is when they are in my back yard.

I'm getting excited.

Thanks again!!

Stoopid question time.

I'm giving very serious thought to attending this GTG. I am taking the next four days off from work to put a wrap on my cargo-to-camper van conversion. I have been working on it every weekend since last October (2012). I am more than ready to take a trip.

What does it mean "Electricity Hookup: 50"?

I'm assuming it means 50 amps, but still not sure how this works. I have installed a small window-type a/c unit in my van that is rated at 15 amps and 115 volts. Will this run my a/c? Is there an extra fee for the amount of electricity you use? I will also need to plug in my computer.

Does this campground have wi-fi? (I'm guessing not). How about cell service, namely the Sprint network? I can tether my cell to get internet if cell service is available

Gads, I have a lot to learn.

Thanks.

Okay - here's how much I can help: Yes, 'Electricity Hookup: 50' means 50 amps. But unless you're wired with a 50A power cord from the van, you won't be able to plug into it. MOST of the 50A utility posts I've seen also have 30A and 20A outlets, but certainly not all. You could phone the campground directly to ask if their power posts have the 20A outlets.

Everyone else out there: Assuming an adaptor could be found, is it okay plug into a higher amp outlet? Or would that be overload on your circuits? Or do I have it all backwards?

Did I help? Did I help? Lord, this is the blind leading the blind!

It will definitely have 30 amp.

You can step down without too much trouble. I have a 30-20 amp adaptor. But I haven't seen one going the other way. That doesn't mean that they don't exist. I just haven't needed them. A phone call to an RV supply place would probably get the question answered.

The state park has electrical up to 50amp so should have 20/30/50amp hookups in the box. Your a/c should work just fine on 20amp but my guess is that you won't need it on the coast (since you're from California, you'll probably be freezing LOL.) As far as Sprint goes, it didn't used to be very good on the coast but they are getting better (our work phones are on Sprint and we used to have issues when people would be on the coast.) I have Verizon so when Karen and I went to check out the park I only checked for a Verizon signal.

I think you should just come to the gtg and between all of us, we'll get you all set up :o

Laura

On edit: There is no extra charge for electricity in the Oregon State parks. Your daily camping fee covers everything. The showers are free and while I've never camped at this campground, the showers/restrooms should be clean with ample hot water for your shower even if someone is taking a shower in the next stall at the same time.

OMG.

I can't believe that I actually did this. Yikes!!

I made a campground reservation last night for the gtg. I have not gone camping since I was a young child. But I took a look at the campsite photos on the reservation website - and I just couldn't resist.

Thanks to all who responded regarding my electricity questions. I do suspect that I will freeze rather than roast. Here in Northern California it has been hotter this summer than I can easily remember. Over 4th July weekend it topped out at 114. No, not a typo. One hundred fourteen degrees. It is predicted to be 100 + today. I don't do hot weather too well (hence the a/c in the van) so cool weather will be a welcome relief.

Thanks again to all who responded to my post. I am sure that I will have multiple questions as the time draws near, but today is day one of "the big push". I still work full-time, but I am taking off today (Wednesday) through Saturday from my job (vacation time. Vacation?) to get the van near to finish as I can manage. This means four 8-hour days (I work slowly). If I have time I will post some photos later in the weekend, but I will probably be just too tired.

I put 2" styrofoam panel insulation in the walls and 1 1/2" in the ceiling (its what would fit between the van's metal ribs). So will fire up the little a/c unit and get to work.

WooHoo!

Call me Anne. CudeDog fits, but I need to brush up on my barking. :D

Thanks!

Annie, this is going to be fun, meeting you and discussing all your improvements. One never knows about the weather when setting up these gtg's. I carry "layers" in my little "cosy camper". My dog too is always on a leash. Till Sept....lyn

Annie....you have electric. If you have s small ceramic electric cube heater....you can run it and be snug and warm.....no reason to freeze once you know you have electric available.

Anne: So glad you are going to be there. Which site did you reserve? I'm sure there will be a 20amp outlet but if need be I have an adapter you can use.
