Maggie and I had an overnight GTG at my house while she was here for a family reunion. While she was here, we went down to Hartwick Pines State Park so I could show her a bit of the logging history of Michigan. We walked through the pines and toured the Logging Camp museum area

The Big Wheels used to haul logs during the summer months or before the snows came
Rollers were used to pack down the snowy roads in preparation for icing
The Icing Wagon which hauled water over the roads to form an ice road for the teams of hourse to haul logs out on

The Sawmill. This mill Is steam operated and is in operation during special events at the park
A replica of the cook's shack where meals were served to the lumberjacks. Strict silence was enforced during meals except for request for something to be passed or refilled. The jacks were expected to eat and then head out for the woods.
A typical lumber camp bunkhouse. Clothing was hung by the stoves to dry. Bunks were straw filled and lice were common.
A statue in honor of the CCC which worked to replant Michigan after the logging era as well as building bridges and creating many of today's state parks
The Chapel in the Pines. This is a beautiful little log chapel and as you can see a magnificent view from inside. It's the site of many a wedding and also a good place for contemplation
