Taking the Plunge Soon

Postby mcts2016 » Sat Aug 03, 2013 8:16 am

Hello all !

My Partner and I are novices and have only done some tent and pop up camping in the past. We are looking at Class A's and C's right now but cant decide which make more sense for us. We will just be going on weekend end trips and maybe for a couple of weeks each summer for next 3 years. After that, we plan on downsizing our home and hitting the road for months at a time. We are so excited and have started a list of all the places we want to go and this forum has been a great educational tool for us. We have been lurkers  for sometime.

Any suggestions or guidance on an A vs. C would be appreciated. Its just the two of us and our 2 dogs. My daughter who is 15 may come with us on occasion but not a lot. We want to tow a jeep with us for day trips and are looking at nothing longer than 32 feet. Any advice would be appreciated.

We look forward to getting to know you more and your great advice.

Welcome to the forum. If you have been lurking, there isn't much point in any of us warning you about what you may find on here....  If you are trying to stay around or under 32 ft your decisions will be a little easier. There are few Class A's in that range. A short class A is considered 34-36 ft in length. If you have a chance to read back through some of the threads (in you spare time right? :) ) Many have previously posted things to think about and why the rig we have works for us at this point in our travels. It is a very individual preference. Wants and needs and "gotta haves" are different. Try to actually see and walk through as many rigs as you guys can, even some of the ones you really don't think you want. You see different features in different manufacturers and you get an idea of the range of fit and finish in the cabinets and bathrooms, etc, that is out there.

Have fun and use your imagination!

Welcome, Mel! I can't offer you any RV advice, but I can tell you there is a lot of information and experience available on this great Forum.

We're glad you joined us and we'll look forward to helping you spend your money...we do that very well!

BTW (Soos, BTW = by the way), you are practically in my back yard. I'm very near Paris TN. We'll definitely have to plan a little GTG.

Welcome to you and your partner, Melinda. Glad to have you with us. If you go reading you'll find many posts asking the same about which to choose, and many answers the same ... basically suggesting you really look at all of those you might consider and start ruling out. For me, I knew my rig would be mine the moment I stepped in it. It was just perfect for me. Hopefully you'll find that happens with you.

Thanks for the replies. We are going to the good Sam rally in oct in Atlanta, that is the largest one we have seen near us. I am hoping to get a better idea of which ones will work for us.

Mitch - Paris isn't very from us at all, would love a mini gtg when we get our rig.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

The Good Sam Rally is a great place to see lots of rigs. And if you find one you like, and want to purchase new, you can often get great deals at the rallies - direct from the manufacturer. So be prepared to deal if you do find the right rig, but also be prepared to walk away if the deal isn't good enough!

GTG's can happen before you have a rig - many here have done that!

And if you go to a rally and meet folks, don't be afraid to ask to see their rigs. Some folks will say "no" but may of us understand how this process works.... It really does help to see different rigs and how folks use them. It is all about gathering choices and ideas... :)

Adding another welcome.
You are not very far from my home town either.
No advice on rig other than be ready to change your mind about what you want. While I'm not new to the forum, I am relatively new to the world of RVing - had my rig about 15 months now - an early 70th birthday present to myself. Started out looking for small Class B, ended up with a small Class C .Good luck on your search.

Welcome! Since you don't expect to full time, you may find it easier to find the right rig. When I was preparing to purchase a Class B, I was already sorting my possessions and measuring how much and types of storage I would require. I ended up with a 26' Class C. My rig is very nice but if I could tweak a few things I would but none of those tweaks is serious enough to act on now.

Good luck. The search is part of the fun.....no, really.
