Bedding -- What size do you use?

Postby Princess » Sun Jul 28, 2013 6:47 pm

So Im looking for another bedspread because the one on the bed feels like a bedspread you see in a Motel 6. According to the paperwork, the bed is 60 x 74. I'm wondering what size bedspread most of you have? I found a bedspread I WUV but the twin is Dimensions: 86" x 68" (68 seems really short! Macy's had to of made a type-o)
Queens Dimensions: 96" x 88"

Online says most short queens are Short Queen : 60" x 74"

hmmm...so what are you all doing? Putting your bedspreads on sideways or something?
I also have a little pillow topper on the bed. She found some sheets that we "think" are a Full and they fit perfectly, but I'm confused about bedspreads.

A full sized mattress is 54" X 75" so I would think full sized bedding would fit Ok. A lot of bed spreads/comforters come as "full/queen" size so that would be perfect.

Depends a lot on how your bed is situated. Mine is a short queen, but it is sideways, so the only thing you can really see is one side and the foot.

I cheat because I use only a bottom fitted sheet and a cotton quilted comforter for a blanket. It makes it a LOT easier to make my bed, and I am very lazy. The cotton quilt is very easy to wash, also, and I wash it fairly often for my allergies.

So I use a double/queen quilt and tuck in the extra on the far side. That way, I only have to pull it to the side when I go to bed, and then pull it back when I make it up. IN other words, one side of the bed stays made up. (Told you I was lazy. :) ) I also fold it down slightly on the top. The opposite side is a different pattern, so it looks good that way. I use regular queen-sized sheets, fit them around the top and then do a lot of tucking in the bottom.

Try some old sheets and bedspread on your new bed once you get it set up. Then, you can decide what fits best for your situation.

I have a full size bed - but it's a corner bed. So I use a twin size comforter - work perfect to just "throw" on the bed.

Twins are a little wide for my bunk but I use them and tuck the excess under along the wall. I don't use a comforter often but I occasionally will use a twin blanket. For the dinette bed that's 54x80, we use queen sheets but twin blanket/comforter because the bed is against one wall and we don't too much overhang on the open side. If we are having to have the heater on, it usually sits just under the dinette blowing out and Oscar lays right at the edge of the bed (Jasmine is up on the bed against the wall). He has his own lap robe for sleeping on.

I have a full size corner bed so do not want too much extra fabric. I use a fitted full bottom sheet and twin size top and coverlet.

I have a king and use king size sheets it's a walk around so makes it easier to make up
although if I bought the sheets separately would probably get by with the top sheet being a queen as there is a lot of over hang
might have to see if that would work now to find a queen to try and see if it does work

I think those dimensions are right, but turned around. As a quilter, I've learned the top of a twin mattress is usually 39" wide and 72" long. So if the 86" dimension is the length, there's a 14" drop at the foot of the bed. Then the 68" is the width, which also allows a 14" inch drop on each side. Well, really a 14.5" drop, but who's quibbling?

That doesn't answer which size to use for your bed, but I felt compelled for some reason to defend Macy's. :?

tGM and I r always wrestling to wrap up in the blanket so we buy one size larger than the bed  if we ever get a king, we might have to resort to each having our own :( Since the sides of our bed shows, I buy a bedspread to match the bed size. Depends on how anal one is on how it looks  personally, I'm always trying to please myself :D that's my story and I'm sticking to it. carold. ps, bought a new lime green one to punch up the color
