Leather Tooling and Scratch Art

Postby monik7 » Fri Jul 26, 2013 7:35 pm

I can't seem to decide what form of art I like to do. Seems I jump from one medium to another. Lately it's been leather tooling. I cut the leather to resemble a cowhide. Unfortunately the right sides of the pics are cut off.

This is called scratch art, something I used to do quite awhile ago. I started with a white paper covered with black ink. Then used an Exacto knife to scratch the result.

My original post disappeared. As I was saying, your work is really good, Sandi. Thanks for sharing it.

Wow! Another very talented lady on here! Absolutely beautiful work!

Have you ever done any work with gourds? Your artwork would look great done on a gourd.

Hi Barbie, there used to be a lady a few houses away from me who made beautiful gourds. I wanted to learn the process, but they were only renting and moved away before I could ask her more about it. I never followed up to see if I could find someplace to learn more :(

ohhhh I remember doing scratch art in junior high art class. We did color on the paper with crayon and then the black paint, when you
scratched it off it showed the color. I always liked doing the scratch art.

First, your pictures aren't cut off ... must be what you're using to look at the posts - they probably would be cut off if I looked from my phone - one reason I make pics a tad smaller.

Second ... gorgeous stuff. I had a friend who did scratch art - she kept telling me I could do it. Ha ... love what you've done - both the leather tooling and the scratch art.

They seem to be cut off if taken with my phone in the landscape position. If taken portrait, they don't cut off. Wish I knew how to try making them smaller with the Photobucket app. Anybody know how?

in photobucket....if you click on that little "gear" looking thing a drop down shows up, click on "edit" and then you get the
bar that gives you the option to resize.
But your picks arent cut off on my computer. On occasion when someones picture looks that way I right click on the picture
and click view image, then it shows me the whole thing. :D But of course thats an option only on my computer, can't do that
on my cell.

Thanks Ava, but in the app, the little gear icon doesn't seem to be offered. I suppose since I'm viewing on the forum from my iPad and iPhone, I guess that's why they're cut off for some reason. Since they're not cut off for you, I suppose if I viewed my post on my computer, they'd probably look OK.
