Potential for FL gtg, October 27-November 8, 2013

Postby Liz » Mon Jul 22, 2013 6:40 am

I won't be around in January, but I just made reservations at Silver River State Park from October 27 to November 8th. It's a lovely time of year in Florida, and a beautiful time to kayak the Silver River in case anyone's around and wants to join me for a few days. I do have a few dr. appts. to go to during that time, but not every day.

I am in site 9. All large paved sites, many pull throughs.

I should definitely be back down there by then, but can't make my reservations until I am more sure. Orion's birthday is October 7th, and then I could take off!

I should make this as well. I have something in NC the beginning of October and was heading to FL afterwards. I will get back to you.

I would love to do it - I will have to see what my schedule is going to look like. And I would only be able to be there for just a few days.

Silver River State Park is in Ocala/Silver Springs in north central Florida. Some of you may not know that the state park has recently taken over the Silver Springs attraction with the glass bottom boats..

Here's a link:http://www.floridastateparks.org/silverriver/default.cfm
And the link for reservations:

Liz,
The reserveamerica reservation system indicates water is a .75 mile walk. Are they referring to the kayak/canoe launch? Can we drive our kayak to the launch or do we have to carry it all the way? Do you know if the park has kayak and canoe rentals?

There is about a half mile walk to the kayak launch. And yes they do rent both canoes and kayaks which are located at the launch site. I have a wheeled hand cart that I used to take my inflatable kayak to the launch, and inflate it there.

There is another public boat ramp farther down the river outside the park that you can drive to, but then it's a longer paddle up river. I like to launch at the park, paddle up to the headwaters and drift back. The current is not bad going upriver. Lots of wildlife to see on the river.

We've been using a rolling luggage to haul the inflatable kayak short distances. Probably time to buy the wheels meant for transporting a kayak. My sister is very interested in seeing your new canoe. She has been researching it online and can't believe the light weight.

Of course! I have two now, so you can use my inflatable if you want, or rent one if you prefer a hard sided one. Anyone that wants to try out my new kayoo can too.

Booked Site #7 - arriving Sun, 10/27 and leaving Sun, 11/3. Very, very happy to have a long pull through site in case my sister has to work. I am not good at backing the trailer. With two sites booked, we now have another GTG.
