Oh crap, Karen. It's 10:00 a.m. and I'm already crying. The new dog, Scarlet, is a real challenge, but I wouldn't give her up for the world. They capture our hearts so quickly, and once done there's no undoing. On a positive note, I think she might, one day, learn to sit. That's my girl!

Thank you all so much. Your comments and encouragement has made me feel better. Also, Jazz has had a good day so that helped as well. I've had to do this with two other pets but it never gets any easier.

So very sorry that you're going thru this. We've all gone thru it and it never gets any easier. Big hugs to you and Jazz....and listen to Mitch....Hold Jazz for his last journey with you. No, it's not the same as losing a husband or partner, but pain is pain and we're here to hold you up.

My heart goes out to you about your little dog. Its so hard to let them go. They are not only our companions for the time they are here with us, but our mentor, our furkids and the love they give us when we are feeling sad. Big ((((H))))) to you

Judy, I know just what you are going through. I put my Tessa down last month due to kidney disease. Fortunately I have two dogs, down to one now, so that helped me, but the loss is still there. I still shed a tear now and then.

You are going to feel lonely for awhile. Not coming home and having that furry ball of fluff meeting you at the door, knowing something is in the house with you, going through your daily routines etc. It's hard. But it will ease in time. Not that you will want to, but if you love to have a dog around, think of getting another one to replace Jazz. Won't be the same, but would give both of you a new start on life again.

I know you are dreading that "day" coming, but one word of warning, having gone through it. Watch Jazz, he's at a point where he won't eat you said and is starting to throw up what he does eat. Smell his breath and if it smells really bad, that's a sign that the kidneys are failing and he is going to wind up getting the toxins and what not that the kidneys usually filer into his blood and everything else. This is something you don't want to have him suffer through. My vet told me it's not pretty and they suffer way too much. So hold Jazz near and do the best thing you can do for him, send him across Rainbow Bridge before he suffers too far. It's the hardest but most loved thing we can do for our furry friends.

As a pet guardian all my life, I will never understand the people that don't grieve over the passing of their pet. Friends can come and go, but it's your little companion that continues being by your side. I am so sorry to hear what's going on with Jazz. When you are ready for another, please don't look at the new one as a replacement, but one to continue on the love between you and Jazz.
