Time to look for that RV

Postby CricketSail » Thu Jul 11, 2013 9:13 am

OMG what a year. Finding myself unexpectedly single after 20 years. Major back problems, surgery for a spinal fusion. Well, as they say, you makes your plans and then life happens. I'm finally feeling on the road to recovery from all of this, and glad I did get out there and do some RV research, of both the rigs and the lifestyle. I'm quite set that this is the way I want to go, and it looks as if it could be time to get that RV, or at least put out feelers for one.
The final stages of settling the house with my ex is underway, so it will be weeks, or months, but it will happen. I need to sell the house to have the cash, but then I should be able to just write the check for the full amount for the rv (no mortgage!)
I will be looking for a C class, hopefully diesel. I am looking for used, but in excellent condition, decent fuel economy. I am quite content to sleep over the cab, there is just me and the dogs and we fit in a small space. I'm always attracted to lofts. I don't need the master bedroom, formal living thing. I'm a crafter, and want to use all available space for that. Dinette for eating, crafting, storage space is important since I'll be full time living in the RV. I do like to cook.
My plans are to be boondocking much of the time, so generators, batteries, things that will keep me going for a few days will be important. Insulation and heating are also important.
I hear back from the dealerships I've visited, but I don't know if they heard me. Last week I was contacted about a very expensive B+ with no eating, sitting area, and more expense in the paint job than I want to pay for. They sent pictures of a queen sized bed, but never mentioned the engine, tank sizes or anything of a technical nature that would be of concern or interest for me.
So I've decided on the class that would suit me best, and am now starting looking for "the one." Maybe someone is planning to swap or move up in the next year or so? Or you might have ideas on the best places to put out feelers for what's going to be the most important purchase of my new life.

Sometimes hardship focuses the mind. Sounds like you know what you want and how to get it. Yahoo! You're gonna have a ball. Post often with pics, please. :D

I've got just what you need. There is a post that tells about my 2010 Coachmen Freelander 2100cb. It's a Mercedes diesel on a Freightliner chassis, 1 slide and very good condition. Has 31000 miles. Genny works great, good heat and a/c, corner bed. PM me if you want more information. I'm in TN.

There is a nice floorplan that sounds something like you might want....it is called a SAFARI TREK. The bed comes down from the ceiling. My friend has one and she loves it. Very functional. They dont make them anymore but it might be worth checking out.

That's my favorite ever rig - I like the smaller one - hard to find - almost got myself one last winter. Well, not quite hard to find, but hard to find at the price I wanted to pay :) They actually told me they were quitting making them (their last year) because there wasn't a big enough market for that "business" rv. I asked them did they ever consider marketing it to the single rver? They said there weren't that many of us. Duh ... us singles are growing by leaps and bounds rving - one reason the small rv's are selling so well now.

Edited to say - favorite ever US built rv. Have seen several from Europe that I'd love to have ... most of those are Mercedes diesels - slightly wider bodies than our regular b's ... and many with the appearance of an A. Was inside one last week that I would have loved to have taken off the people's hands.

And something that ticks me off - my little trailer, Fun Finder X-160 (and it's smaller cousin, the X-139) have been discontinued by CruiserRV.
So disappointing - small and VERY lightweight.
Tents are lightweight.

looking is part of the fun :D enjoy! I've spent years researching and finally know exactly what I want, but getting one
is going to be tricky cause I don't want new because I don't want that "new" price. But used I've seen them as low as
54,000. My perfect rv for me......Thor citation 24sa and it has EXACTLY what I want without any modifications. I saw
a used one in TX at PPL and if its till there when I have a downpayment in a few months we'll see what happens. If
not, I'll keep saving and keep looking. :D

Hell, that's TWO zingers for you tonight...NOW who's hitting the wine??
Or is it that cold AK air making you giddy?
Oh, I would so love to be where you are right now!
Isn't Valdez the neatest little town?

PS: I wish on the "lightweight" part...

Thanks all for the responses - I have checked out each rv link, name, specs. I have definitely moved from the general to the specific, looking for my dream rv. The catch of course is that I don't know when my house will sell, but when it does, I'm totally ready. My belongings have been Seriously downsized already. I'll appreciate any leads I get along this next phase of finding the right rv that will be there when it's time to make the move. Yeah, I have to wait for the house sale, but having cash in hand I'm sure will grease the purchase wheels.
