I have ordered a cable with alarm. It has not arrived yet. I'll report back on it when (or IF) it gets here. I plan to use it to secure my Winegard Carryout antenna. This trip to KY, I used those heavy duty cable locks, like this one. Secured antenna to picnic table.

I don't imagine that the alarmed one will be REALLY loud, but enough to maybe wake me up (light sleeper).

Thanks Mitch.

I wear ear plugs! That started years ago when we used to RV to dog shows.

Anyway, I read that the cables are easy to cut with any bolt-cutter. Even some of the chains can be cut with bolt-cutters! So they have to be that hardened kind of steel.

I WOULD however, use cable to secure our dog bike-baskets...or even the seat on my bike, which is special because it's a recumbent bike.

I guess the places I'm the most worried about are when we stop at WMs to sleep, or something...

Nothing will stop a determined thief. But these cables might stop a crime of opportunity.

Abby's a great alert system, too. Not an effective deterrent, however!1 :)

The storage facility said mine was the first break in. They covered my deductible, which I was happy to hear. I've been thinking about alarm on all doors in my RV, any thoughts ??

Oh...well at least they did that!

Well like someone mentioned...if no one hears the alarm...what good is it?

Is your space close to the office? Or to the living quarters where the 24/7 person stays?

My storage place for our TT has got a 24/7 person who lives in an apt. above the office. But my space is pretty far from there...plus it's right up against the street-side wall. Anyone limber enough can climb over.

My motorhome came with an alarm system and I'm usually the dummy that sets it off. I try to be really careful which door I open at 6:00 am. I found out at a gas station that if the alarm is going off I can't start the engine. Took me a few minutes to get it turned off. Didn't seem to bother any of the other customers that the alarm was going off.

I worry about being 1,000 miles from home and having it stolen. Don't like to park it just anywhere and walk off. If I ever get a newer motorhome I would see about installing some kind of gps tracking device.

That's a good point.

But if you've got gps ON your rig...you know to map stuff...doesn't it already having tracking on it?

I have a portable GPS unit. Don't know that Garmin would track it down for me.

MINE! came with a Kenwood unit that's in the dash...like where the stereo would be...plus you can use it like a stereo, and put DVDs and CDs in it. It also displays the view from the back-up camera when I throw it in reverse.
The guy who did the walk-thru with me kept saying how jealous he was of it.

Ha! That would be the first thing stolen!

It seems to me that whatever unit you have you can contact the gps company (just like with cell phones) and ask them to track it.

Of course that would mean you'd have to keep their phone #, your model #, and all the pertinent info separate out of your MH, so you'd have it to be able to call them.

But maybe I'm just assuming...probably should call to make sure....

I do have GPS in my MH in the dash like yours. I'll have to check that out. I don't even know who makes it. I think it might be Winnebago. I guess you all have some valid points...if someone wants it, they'll figure out a way to get it.

Cool!

Yeah I think a lot of us have that...we'd all like to know!
