Running AC on Generator

Running AC on Generator

Postby Olive600 » Mon Jul 01, 2013 2:11 pm

Started running the generator and AC last week so I could finish painting. Was careful to follow directions: no more than 15 seconds of holding down switch before genni starts. up. (It takes a consistent 12 seconds.) Wait at least 1 min before starting up AC. Got it. Start AC: There's a spike on the volt meter when the AC initially starts, between 120 and 124 but goes down right away

Now I'm getting to the question: Last week the volt meter receded to 112-115 after a minute or less. Today, the volt meter spiked to 124 and then started down right away. At 119 I quit watching and went back to my painting. About 45 minutes later I got ready to shut everything down and the volt meter was at 124. Does that mean I shouldn't run the AC on the generator? Does it mean that I have to shut off the AC before I run anything else at all? Do I remember right that the reading shouldn't be over 120?

BTW, I found another leak. Ain't that just peachy.

Newbies: I'm having all these problems because I didn't do my homework, and I didn't confirm what the seller told me because I didn't want to be a B*&?!. The guy is my neighbor. He said, "Hey want a great deal on the RV? There's nothing wrong as far as I know." I said, "Sure! You're a great guy!" Don't make the same mistakes. They are costly and depressing.

124 is not in the danger zone. About 112-128 should be fine.

Sorry about the leak.

You don't need to worry unless your meter goes below 110. The voltage will vary depending on how many other people are pulling electric.
