This may not belong here but thought I might get more responses.

When you run your gen and charge ph and iPad, why would the plugs be hot ???

If the voltage is low the amperage will go up and cause things to heat up. You might need to check your generator voltage. If it's just one charger, the charger may be dying. The part you plug into the outlet tends to get warm as it shorts out and dies. If the outlet is hot you have a short in your outlet and should have it check out.
