Well, Abby cares, as long as she's with me!

Oh you KNOW better than that!
(Abby don't care either)

My first year (or two) out a friend tracked me ... I think he did it more because it was fun to follow me - and that winter visiting him I saw he'd used Streets and Trips to do it ... and I had my entire itinerary on it there so now I actually do a Streets and Trips itinerary for each year. When I plan anything I can go back and look at previous years.

OK, that was off topic, but it is a neat way to have your travels.

People know where I am by following my blog which is pretty much after the fact. And they know which way I'm headed. No one usually knows exactly where I am when ... well Mitch tracked my journey to Alaska this year. That was kind of fun. I don't worry about if something happens to me, will anyone be able to find me or claim my body. Course, I don't have kids either. I do worry about if something happens to me, who will take care of Peaches. THAT is important to me. So hopefully if anything does happen, I'll be found by some caring people who will make sure she is taken care of. (Or whatever animals I have at the time).

Gosh, Beth - put instructions somewhere around Peaches in case anything happens to you. I can think of DOZENS of ladies on this Forum who would take her (myself for one). Don't let that be a worry to you.

People already know that poor Vickie will be tortured by The Little White Beast if anything happens to me...now I have talked myself into making a note for somewhere in the Mobile Marlin to that effect.

When I lived on the sailboat I would sometimes call my relatives to stay in touch since they couldn't do the same for me not having a phone. Rather than ask me about my way of life or adventures, they would launch into their local news and gossip. At first I was hurt by the lack of interest, but then I realized there were two possible reasons for it. The first was that they were jealous of our freedom and didn't want to hear about it; the second more likely reason was that no matter who you are, you're basically mostly interested in yourself and what affects your daily life. So, I got over it. Now I do my best to give my complete attention to who I am talking with, even if they don't inquire about my life style in return. As far as telling someone where I am or plan to go...well...so far I haven't done that much traveling, but the little I've done has basically been to where you guys are going, Hillsborough and Wickham gtg's. I keep in touch with you! I also let the neighbor know since they keep an eye on my house while I'm gone. This upcoming trip to Tennessee will be monitored by the person I'm meeting there who will know my approximate time line and travel itinerary just in case. PS: Donna, I was sorry to hear about your fall and hope you are recovering ok. I have a feeling your vulnerability in that incident is what has prompted your question. Like Red Green used to say, "Remember we're pulling for you. We're all in this together." 8-Dell

I'm with you Mitch. At least I know my 2 dogs and cat love me and care that I'm with them. I too worry more about them than myself. Wish there was someone besides my daughter to count on to care for them if need be.

Whether we are traveling or sitting at home....it all seems similar to me. I keep a small clipping from the newspaper I found over ten years ago. It tells of a woman's body that was found in her apt. She had been dead for several years. The new owners of the apt had purchased the home from the bank as it had been foreclosed on. I mean didn't anyone every think to report her missing or to look in the building?

I have a couple other stories that I have collected over the years, just as strange. They have always made me think about how alone many people are in this world...even in the middle of huge towns and cities.....and how attuned others are to their own lives. :?

Tina's post make me remember when we first moved to this neighborhood there were two widowed women who were reclusive and seldom ventured out. One did have a son who didn't live here, the other had a man she and her DH had helped through college who came by occasionally to do yard work. The other neighbors said the women didn't answer their doors if they tried to check on them. I don't know what happened to the one with a son but one day he was there cleaning out the house which took him most of the summer! The other who lived next to us suddenly called me one day and invited me over for coffee. She also hired a young woman to come in and stay with her days and they developed a lasting friendship. The woman stayed with her and took care of her until she died a couple of years later. I've often wondered what made them retreat from the world.

I always teased that I had so many kids so that at least one would take care of me in my old age  My oldest son calls every day. He really doesn't like me being so far away here in TX. he would be the one that would keep track of me if I was traveling solo. I think our kids care, but we raised them to be independent, self sufficient adults. Our success means we're out of a job.

I remember when I moved to Mpls years and years ago (in my 20's) - I wasn't in contact with my family daily or even weekly. My mom always said bad news travels fast. And I must admit, it almost happened to scare the tar out of her. On my birthday I had gone out with friends and had a few drinks, so one of my friends drove my car back with me as a passenger.. A friend drove my car and I stayed at another friends. On the way back (from WI back to Mpls in MN) I made them pull over so I could pee. Well, while peeing (I can't believe I'm putting this story online for the world to see) I somehow dropped my purse out of the vehicle - without knowing it. So now I'm without glasses or my id (all in the purse). So here we were the next day driving back to WI (me still as a passenger as I can't drive without my glasses or contacts and contacts weren't with me) and tracing our path to the bar (where my friend's band played that night) and someone came and opened it and checked all around - no purse. Then we actually found the place we stopped for me to pee... and it wasn't too far from a farmhouse - we checked the ground, even went to the door, just in case, but no one was home. Nothing. Drove all the way back to Mpls (long before cell phones) and this time got me and my car to my apt (we won't talk about this also being the ONLY time any vehicle of mine has EVER run out of gas - but again, I wasn't driving) and my phone was ringing. Of course my mom always called on my birthday and now here it is 8 at night on my birthday and she hasn't been able to reach me for 24 hours ... luckily I answered ... cuz my very next phone call was from the police in that little WI town - my purse had been turned in but that same farmer who hadn't been home (don't want to tell you we thought that farm house was out of psycho - scary lol) and now I needed to get back to WI again to pick up my purse and glasses. The police told me they had been trying to call for a couple hours and IF I hadn't answered this time, they would have called my emergency # - which was my mother's because on the road near where my purse was found, was also found what appeared to be a bloody towel, so they weren't taking chances that something sinister had happened to me. My mom laughed about the story when told about it, but I guarantee she wouldn't have been laughing if she'd been called by the police with what info they had.

Had to make a 3rd drive back to WI to get my purse and glasses.

Yes, Beth it was a good thing that your mother didn't get one of those calls! In the light of day the almost scary stories always seem so much more harmless.

And Mitch always knows that VIckie cares......If something happens to Mitch, Vickie has to take over the daily care and beating ....I mean care and feeding of Sweet Abby Beastie..... Vickie is nice I don't know if she can give Abby the care and "feeding" that Mitch gives out... 8-)

(we know she loves her little white beastie she really really does....)

Aw, thanks, Bonnie! Say, you wanna take The Beast now, to practice with her, just in case Vickie doesn't beat her properly?

What do you expect? Abby picked up her grooming habits from her Sheet Head Momma.

A lot of people know where I am in a general way -- son, sisters, their families. Nobody tracks on a day-to-day basis, which is fine. No point in giving people itineraries, because I can't be trusted to follow them anyway. :D

So, if I suddenly drop dead, nobody will be checking up. Fine for me; I won't be there to be bothered by it. Not so good for The William. I hope he barks loud enough to bring somebody running, and I do keep contact information available.

The only thing that ever worries me is getting injured when I'm alone. I'm very careful to keep my cell phone charged! If I start doing a lot of traveling in remote areas, I might get one of those satellite devices, just in case.
