Great tour again Liz. It sure makes me sad when I see people have etched their names/initials/symbols in these beautiful formations. I wish there would be some way to police these treasures better. But I suppose with budget cuts that's even less possible now  . Why do people do this? It's beyond me. They'll never be the same as they were before those idiots chose to deface them  .

Beautiful Country !!! I so enjoyed going along with you on this trip. I couldn't keep up with you, but I feel most of the time after seeing your blogs that I was there Too !!!

Thanks for taking the time to post all the pics. And narrative is always good.

Travel safe,

CArol :)

Saw that place, Sheila. Register Cliff, the dates and names there are so interesting. Maybe one day, the defacing that goes on now might be appreciated by someone in the next century.

I haven't been there in over 40 years......It helps to go to college in Lexington. :) I did manage to visit with sober friends. :? (Hey, it was before I knew Mitch!)

Unfortunately, Red River Gorge area is also known for the death and injury of young people who drive over to party. Now you can figure out about how some of those names get scribbled on the rocks. And those cliffs and trails are very unforgiving for those whose coordination is compromised. As Liz demonstrated with the picture...not fencing across that arch.....

Great blog as usual and thanks for sharing one of your resources - that Atlas looks as if it would be a sound investment for many of us.
