Securing glasses, cups etc.

Been busy thinking of things for my eventual new TT. Having had one before, I still have the stuff. One of the things that I had some problems with in my last TT, was my plastic drinking glasses bouncing around unless I put one inside the other and laid them flat in the cupboard. Never had a problem with the heavier coffee mugs or plates.

Am tossing a couple of idea around for securing them in the next one, but wondered if any of you came up with any cleaver ideas for keeping your dinnerware, glasses, etc. in place in your cupboards. I know there are things at Camping World, but am looking for some other ideas, suggestions I can't do a whole lot till it get the TT.

Would love some ideas. There are some great minds out there and I know a lot of you have done some really neat makeovers.

We use small velcro strips. We've recently had trouble with the cupboard above the galley sink opening & dumping our Corell all over the floor. Good thing that stuff doesn't break! But the small strips work well in the door handles. Easy fix without having to drill anything.

I never had a problem with the doors themselves opening, it was just the plastic glasses bouncing around inside them. Sometimes had to be careful opening the door, so things wouldn't fall out. My dishes stayed put in place with no problem.

Don't be so sure about Corelle not breaking! I've had it shatter, both in the rv and here at home. At home, I'm down to 4 bowls to an 8 place setting. Ronnie doesn't realize that he can't balance it on his knee to carry it to the sink with Weatherby trying to see what might be left in there.

Oh yes Corelle will break! One of my first bloopers when I started teaching was demonstrating to the students that it was unbreakable. I dropped a plate on the floor and it shattered into pieces! Here at home I have found that it is not a match for ceramic floors either!

I think it depends on what it's making contact with. In the trailer there are vinyl and carpeted floors -- much more forgiving. At home I've got tile in the kitchen, and the one(?) time Jed counter-surfed to get the cats' wet food he pushed their Corell plate onto the floor & it shattered all over the place. I had a plate hit the edge of my stove once, and while the plate didn't break, it made a little divit on the corner of the stove, taking off the paint!

On our first trip to the Blue Marlin, Ronnie made a turn in one of the small towns and ran the rv tires over a curb, when we arrived and opened the door there were shards of several bowls scattered on the vinyl and carpet. The only rewarding part, was to see Mitch sweeping my floor!

I have those "sticky" mats in all my cupboards. Keeps everything in place very well. Might have a glass tip over if the road is exceptionally rough but cups and plates, etc. stay in place.

I've only had one cabinet door open. Of course it was to my dishes ... and yes, Corelle does break. Since then I have cut the liner stuff and have one between each piece. They don't move now. But the door never opens either. I think, with all the bad roads, etc I've been on, it must have been operator error in closing it. That said, the dishes would have moved around without using the liner.

I also use the liner AROUND glasses as well as under them. That way if they slide, they're safe. I try to pack them all tightly in so there's no where for them to move.

Jean used to have a box, like from wine, with dividers. She used real glass, and cut one down to fit her glasses in it.

on the doors that I can I use bungee cords to keep them from opening...the cupboard with my corelle and glasses yes glass glasses besides the no slide mat under I put news papers between the row of glasses they haven't broken yet I have a thing in there that gives me a extra shelf for my mugs both soup mugs and beverage mugs that I take down and but in a bin as once Ididn't and they slide off yes had a no slide mat under but the whole thing slide and broke I believe some corelle mugs and plates think that is the only mishap I've had...

Yep, found out that Corelle can break. Tessa counter-surfed and pulled one off. It broke all over the floor So got a matching one from my old TT's dishes to even my house collection off again. Now will have to get another one for the TT. Can't win.

For your plastic glasses: I use one of those plastic shoe boxes without the cover. Can usually find them in the dollar store. Glass ones require something that separates and protects.

I use a velcro strip around the 2 upper kitchen cabinet door handles now. Never had a problem until one disasterous day going around a corner the doors flew open and my appliances, dishes, etc. all flew out. Had to replace a lot of stuff. Velcro strap is a cheaper solution.

Recently installed a child-proof latch on my junk drawer under the fridge. It wouldn't stay shut either - probably because I had so-o-o much junk in it. Made it heavy.

I picked up canvas divided storage things in the dollar store, too. Good for wine and booze. Before I got that, I put the bottes in men's tube socks or put those jersey stretchable headbands for girls around the bottles to keep them from clinking.

I use rectangular plastic baskets that I got at Wal-Mart. They have handles on the side. I use one to store my plastic glasses, stacked two high and upside down in the basket. I don't have any pics online to show you, but I will try to remember to post some later. I also have a two-tiered corner rack for storing my plates and bowls. Currently, we use mostly paper but I do have some plastic that we also use.
