Mitch thank you for upgrading the geography lesson with a more detailed map. Also a reminder for those that have not made the Alaska drive. There are two ways to get to Valdez....take the ferry/s $$$ from Prince Rupert and on around to Cordova and Valdez..... OR drive north to pick up the Alcan highway through the Yukon (Whitehorse) on into Alaska until you can pick up the southern road towards Valdez. There are no direct routes.....but many miles of driving ahead for Beth. There will be a few long days ahead....

I'm in the bakery in Haines junction right now. Yum. Got to detour onto a portion of the original Alaska highway yesterday. Now the folks who traveled that had guts. And that's when the talk of caring extra tires, etc happened. Today just lots of miles. And yes a few stretches of crappy road. Nothing like it used to be. But the snow has to quit falling in Valdez! I might have to hole up somewhere because of it. We shall see.

You are dreaming for sure. I'm traveling at a really good clip, but to have been there already when you thought so - well, would have been driving in my sleep

Am in Tok now ... bad weather from the border crossing to here ... Have quite a bit of new snow on the ground here and my car doors are frozen shut ... posted a couple pics on FB ... will get things on my blog eventually when I get to Valdez and do a post of this weeks travels.

I want to remind anyone who wants to travel to Alaska ... this is NOT how you want to do it for your first trip. You want to take your time and see things. I'm amazed how much I still do stop and see. Probably stopped at 3 or 4 views today ... have the places I want ... and I wanted to go to that bakery this morning. Kind of why I stopped at the cg I did last night.
