Messed Up Stove Cover

I have an oven/range combination with a metal folding cover that closed when I travel or want to use it as extra counter space. It had two very large warning/safety stickers on it, so one day a month ago I got over-ambitious and decided to get some chemical remover and get them off. Unfortunately, the paint is sticky, the labels are still 50% there, and now it really looks awful.

This cover is really only decorative--too flimsy to set hot pots on, for example.

I am looking into several options, and would like suggestions for the last one:

1) Buy a replacement - not in stock, but the factory parts department is checking on how I could get a new one. Have no idea of cost. I suppose I could contact oven manufacturer, but this is not a very creative solution.
2) Sand the rest of the old pain off and try to spray paint it. Might look worse.
3) Cover it with something. I was thinking of maybe some corkboard? What else could I use that would not look tacky?

The trim and cabinets in my motorhome are dark cherry. Oven and stovetop (gas) are black.

So the metal of the cover has a layer is paint on it? What shape is it - round, square, rectangle?

If it were me, I'd ask them to order another. They should be able to get one. After my first trip last year when my rig was new, a small logo plate came off the center of one rear aluminum wheel. Just ornamental but I didn't want one missing. They were able to get me 2 in about a week. I'd give it a try unless you just don't like it and want to try to come up with something else.

It is a rectangle which bends in half so you can move it out of the way to use the burners. It is painted black metal now, not very thick metal.

You pull it up and bend it so it ends up folded behind the stove. When you want to cover the stove burners, you pull it down again. Here is what it looks like closed. If you look closely, you can see the horizontal line where it folds up. Also, when it folds, you push the front edge back so that the crack is on top. You still see the top and the smaller sticker when it is folded because the part that was inside is still inside. (OK, I know this is a horrible explanation but I don't have a photo of it handy. Will take one tomorrow night after I pick it up.)

Try spraying some WD40 on it to remove the stickers. If that doesn't work sand it down and get some of the spray paint that is made to spruce up gas grills. Then if you don't like the finished product I'd order a replacement.

I'd take the whole thing off & get a stove-sized cutting board instead. What you have now has got to rattle when you're going down the road, and you can't really use it for anything. I bought a cutting board at CW for around $40 (probably less than your replacement top). It's got the no-stick stuff (like shelf liners) on the bottom and doesn't budge when we're moving. MUCH prefer it to the metal cover -- it's actually useful!

I have the same cover on my stove. You could also try a product called Goo B Gone. It can be found at Lowes or Home Depot type stores, maybe even Walmart.

There's a product called "3M Label Remover" available in auto supply stores. Have also heard of soaking it with mineral oil or peanut butter (when you're done, you could make a PB&J sandwich ).

I actually like Pat's idea best but do wonder where you put the cover when using the stove top?
and the sensible part of me would try the goo b gone there was some other stuff that worked really well
but haven't seen it forever so probably isn't available and that is ok can't remember the name anyway

I use Goo Gone to remove stickers. Otherwise, sand and paint with heat and rust resistant paint.

I use Goo Gone all the time it does not remove paint only sticky
I too am looking for a cutting board to put on mine...
You can get Goo Gone everywhere even the dollar store

We use the cutting board over the stove top. Keeps everything quiet and when I cook I put it over the sink for more counter space to use.

I put a cutting board on mine....stops the rattle when traveling & is super useful to use as a preparation area before using the stovetop....if yours is such light weight that you really can't use it for much, you might just consider a cutting board....

I like the cutting board idea. Getting tired of the rattles. I saw one today in the parts department from Camco that was designed for that, but I need to do some measuring.

See my note about getting my vehicle back. The mechanics who spent 8 days doing warranty work somehow managed to remove the rest of the stickers and it turns out what I thought was damaged paint was really just some of the goop from the soggy stickers. Now it looks almost as good as new.

I made a cover out out of laun board with some 1x2 pieces of wood around the edge to sit down over my stove cover. Put some of those stick on floor tiles on it. Don't know if I would have put anything really hot on it, but it protected my stove cover, rode along nicely on the stove and was a great place to use for extra counter space.

Another solution is to place a towel or pot holders between the stove top and cover while traveling. Kills the rattle. I was really impressed that my new one doesn't rattle. Guess Winnebago has gotten some things right!
