Hello! Introduce

Postby CricketSail » Mon May 13, 2013 6:48 am

Hello, I am very happy to be here. I have been planning for years to either live aboard or live in an RV. I've finally settled on the RV. Boating is great, but maybe not for a newly single woman & her two dogs. Plus there are so many friends I want to visit. I am finding as I turn toward the RV decision, that so much of my learning about boating can be transferred to RVs.
I am moving toward selling my house at long last, so I will have some cash to get (I hope) the RV of my dreams. I know, easier said than done. I have to watch my budget, will need to consider everything, gas vs diesel, up front vs constant expenses, everything maintenance.
To know me is to know my two little dogs, lively schipperkes. They are wonderful companions and excellent watch dogs. They are constantly alert, will bark at anything and then make friends in an instant when I give the ok.
I'm a communications junkie and have spent the last several months looking into everything related to communications for someone on the move.
I spent yesterday visiting RV dealerships and was a bit unsettled by that environment. Not sure I trust dealers, and one totally blew me off (because I'm a mature woman, not to be taken seriously?) Not badmouthing, jus' saying.
I'm a craftsperson, and hope to sell and work as I hit the road.

Welcome "Cricket" :D Sounds like you have a good plan. Most of us are "mature" women, so we can identify with your "not taken seriously" experience! You've found a great place to be--on this forum you'll find great info & great friends! :P Good luck with your shopping! I'm a central NYer, love to travel the New England states, hope to meet you! 8-)

Welcome to the forum. I lived aboard a sailboat and cruised the Pacific for 13 years yrs. Many of the things we learn living aboard transfers to the RV life style as well. As you search through the forum you will find many stories as members went through the process of selling their house (stick and brick (SB), deciding what kind of RV they wanted and finding that perfect match.

Welcome to the forum. Most of us on the forum can relate to not being taken seriously because we're "mere" women. There are lots of us out there roaming around so you'll be right at home. You might think about a good used rig that was well taken care of - no depreciation.

Thanks for all your comments. And looking forward to meeting you when I get on the road. I am thinking used, and using the cost difference to go diesel. But oh my this is going to be a lot of searching.

Welcome Aboard, Cricket! We're glad you joined us. Keep us in the loop as you search for your perfect rig...lots of people here to help and advise you. (not me, though...I have an itty-bitty travel trailer and not much experience.) I'm also old, but not necessarily mature. :)

So, drop in and ask/comment whenever and wherever you want!

Thanks much for your welcomes. It's a relief after the dealers ! They ask me what I want, but I was hoping they would be more helpful in determining just what that is. Oh well, very glad to be here.

Hi Cricket, Go and look at as many RV's as possible. Place yourself in the kitchen area, pretend you are making something. Where would you put that measuring cup, the spoon, the can opener, etc. Go into the bath room area and sit on the toilet, take a shower, where is the towel? Where is the shampoo, etc. Is there enough room to turn around?

Where are you going to put your supplies for the crafts you make? Cupboard space? Storage space underneath? A Class A, B, or C. Do you know what they mean? Where will your "craft station" be? Where will the computer sit?

Will you have guests traveling with you once and awhile? Where will they sleep, and store their belongings?

Talk to as many women as possible who travel in RV's.

DON'T PAY ANY ATTENTION TO SALESMEN!!!!! They will tell you what they think you want to hear!!!!!

This from a young at heart, mature, lady who lived in an RV for 16 years.
