Home Base

Hi all I was just wondering about a home base…I know a lot of full timers use SD as home base…but I was wondering about Florida as a home base…my PA drivers license is due up in June…thinking since I am already in FL might as well get the license here…any opinions out there??? thanks

Don't know about legality or finances but if you are a resident of Florida you get half price on some excellent state parks and also get cheaper Disney tickets

this is a good topic, and I'm sure we've discussed it before but one of the things that comes to mind for me....
getting tags for the car, truck, etc. Some states have inspections and for me that just might be inconvenient
at times. For example...Arizona has the emission inspection every two years so thats doable for me cause I'm
sure once I hit the road I'd be able to be back by the time its due. Texas on the other hand has an inspection
every year and you have to be back for that. And then of course there is the issue of when you have to be
back for the drivers license renewal. Colorado let me renew my tags by mail when I first moved to Arizona.
Kept Colorado tags on the van for 5 years before I got the little car.
What other issues come to mind when one thinks about deciding on a home base?

Since I was a resident of Florida already and my dd lives in FL, I kept FL as my residency and moved my mailing address to her address when I sold my house. You could use your Dad's address or there are mail-forwarding services in this state too.

It's result what works best for you. Financially SD beat out FL and TX for me, and that's how I based my decision. Plus no inspections and I can buy an RV or car on the road and easily get tags etc.
