Recommend an RV repair book?

Postby rvgal » Fri Jan 16, 2009 12:14 pm

I must admit I am woefully lacking when it comes to understanding how the various systems work in an RV. I am not mechanically inclined but I would like to have a basic understanding of how things work in an RV and how to do minor repairs. Or, if I have a problem, at least how to check basic things before calling a repair person. Can any of you recommend a book(s) that explains things like this on a kindergarten level ??!

I don't know if I'd consider these books rv repair books - although they give lots of suggestions. I haven't ever bought one, but have seen others and have considered buying the new Volume 3 - but Good Sam's has a book "10-Minute Tech" - it's on Volume 3 now - don't know if the older ones are still available - but you can get info on this one here: 10-Minute Tech, Vol 3

I have Trailer Life's RV Repair and Maintenance Manuel. I don't know if I've ever opened it. If you're not mechanically inclined like me, buy a cell phone instead and call for help.

If you're looking for some basic how-to info go get a RVing for Dummies. Explains in basic terms how various systems operate. Not necessarily a repair book but helps you learn how stuff operates.

I also recommend RV for Dummies _ I bought mine used on amazon and it is in excellent condition - probably not the newest edition but current enough for a newbie like me.

Oh that book sounds like a good idea. That way even if you did have to get someone to actually fix it you wouldn't be telling the repair guy, the thingumy jig is going whoosh woosh.
