April 10 in Death Valley, Joshua Anthony's Birthday

Postby monik7 » Wed Apr 10, 2013 3:32 pm

Today is April 10, my son Joshua Anthony's birthday. He was murdered in 1995. As I think about what happened so long ago when he was born on this day, I'm so happy that I'm here in Death Valley to reflect on his life that was cut short before he really became a man. I think the name "Death" Valley gives the wrong impression of this place. It may have been a place of death more than 150 years ago, but today it's alive with beautiful colors, plant life, animals, fascinating geology and history.

As I was driving this morning, I had my iPod playing and Sarah Brightman was singing Amazing Grace. Such a beautiful song to hear while driving and admiring this amazing creation that is Death Valley. I'd like to think that Joshua knows I'm always thinking of him and especially on this day in this special place. This is truly a place he'd want be.

Sorry about the sad anniversary, but you certainly have found a beautiful way to remember and reflect on his life.

Sandi, so glad you are finding some peace in Death Valley. I was there a couple of years ago and really only went because my friend wanted to go. (CougarFan) I was totally awed by the depth and beauty of this park. I loved it. It wasn't terribly hot when we were there (can we say perfect weather) and we only touched on a part of it as we were on our way home to Oregon. I certainly want to go back again one day.

I was supposed to go to this GTG but circumstances got in my way and in reflection it turned out for the best. I will be working until the middle of June....then let the camping begin!!!! I am very excited about our GTG in Sept. Can't wait to see you again. If you are up this way before Sept let me know, I will go camping with ya.

Sandi, I am sure your son is with you. I feel my mom with me when I travel, since she loved to take road trips with me. I even talk to her like she is sitting next to me. :D

So far today it is windy and blustery. We got about an inch of snow overnight but now are expecting up to 14 inches of snow here by tomorrow night. ACK!! Will winter never end??? This storm system is heading east and sounds like it will be pretty nasty across the southern states as well, so hang on to your hats and stay safe!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Hi Sandi
What a nice tribute to your son's memory. The people we love are always with us, if we are mindful. Big hug coming in the east coast. Peggy

Hi Sandy,
I hope your time in DV and your memories bring you comfort and even joy. As others have said, I believe our loved ones are with us as long as we remember them and that our relationships with them can continue to grow and deepen.

Thank you all for your kind words. This never gets any easier, but it's wonderful to have the support of caring people.

Sandi, I can't imagine losing a loved one in such a violent manner. I'm glad he lives on in your heart and you were in a beautiful place to cherish your memories.

Sandi, what a wonderful tribute to your son! I'm glad I got to spend the time I did with you in DV. I'm finally getting ready to post some pics, etc ... and I haven't forgotten you - will be sending some to you via email shortly.
