Soos, I am in agreement with that! I need trees, color, water, living things, etc. The desert is not very appealing to me either, altho, going thru Utah was awesome because of the red rock formations there. Loved that!

Since neither of you have been here, I suggest you don't prejudge. Lots of green right now. And color. Neither if you will probably ever come out here and if you did probably wouldn't enjoy it, but there are many of us who do. Those who left did not do so because they didn't see the beauty here.

I guess I see a different kind of beauty. In addition, there are rock formations in Death Valley with all colors - red, yellow, pink, lavender, green, white, etc. I think it's too bad when people write off what they haven't experienced. In fact, I think it's sad. If everything has to be just like home, why leave? You don't need a trailer, RV, 5th wheel, or motorhome and you don't need to see the variety this country has to offer. That's why I got an RV - to see all different communities, landscapes, environments, history, etc. I don't want to only see what's outside my front door.

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend anyone. I HAVE been there and it just doesn't do anything for me. I guess we all have our personal preferences. There is a lot of diverse scenery in this country and we all like certain places better than others. To each their own...

Everyone can have their opinion, but it is hard to think anyone believes the desert is all just nothing!! Of course, I feel that way when people talk about how boring driving through Kansas is - they need to get off the Interstate!!

Yes, there are barren places in the desert, but it isn't all that way. This spring the desert was absolutely beautiful in places because of all the rain that came at the right time. The plants were bigger and brighter. In some areas there are trees - palo verde, salt cedar, ironwood, etc. It is exciting in the spring as the cactus all starts to bloom. There are the saguaros with their often funny shapes. There are many flowering bushes. There are cholla cactus forests.

Going from one area of geology to the next is interesting as well. Some of the colorful hills come from sand dunes that shifted. Rock boulders vary in colors and were created in different manners. There are hills and mountains. There are geodes, rose quartz and fire agates if you know where to look - still waiting for someone to show me where the turquoise is!

There are beautiful sunrises and sunsets, amazing wildlife, peace and quiet.

Now, wouldn't the world be a boring place if we all thought exactly the same as everyone else? I hope this exchange does not make people uncomfortable about voicing their personal opinions.

I, too, have been to the desert several times and it's not my cup of tea. But simply stating that fact shouldn't be interpreted as "yelling".

Your mileage may vary.

And, I'm more than willing to give The Desert another try with more experienced voyagers as my guides.

Well, thought I'd just add my opinion to the 'pot'.....I'm from Chicago where they have hot, humid summers, cold windy snow days and miles & miles of concrete...and did I mention mosquitoes.....(course I do miss the wonder of 'lightening' bugs)....miles & miles of concrete & buildings & people, people, people. Left there when I was young & don't care to go back (family all gone anyway). But it has some beautiful attractions that are definitely worth spending time to see.....
Love New York City which has similar stuff that Chicago has....definitely a place to see....Been to the tip of Florida when we had to fly in to meet a cruise ship....my daughter has relatives there....it has it's pluses but not a place I'd care to spend much time in...Loved going to Washington DC & that whole area....soooo many things to see & do ... relive our country's history, Wow! Wonderful area....Colorado with it's great Rocky mountains....oh my! beautiful....could live there but the snow & the cold is more than this old body can take anymore. Been through OK, TX, AZ, NM, NV, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, and the other states in that area...different scenery, different people, different life styles...loved Iowa....people were absolutely great....
Anyhow, I've seen parts of the desert, camped there more than a few times, sadly during the hot temps...which I really can't handle anymore....it's not my favorite kind of environment and it is definitely different than most, but it has it's own kind of beauty which one can appreciate and compare to other environments....then there is the ocean, trees, mountains, sunshine, mild weather conditions (mostly) of California.....totally different than many other places....some may not like our freeways or some o our inhabitants or the prices of things....I happen to think it's a small paradise offering all kinds of beauty....and it is my preference to travel this area and Oregon and Washington (though haven't visited WA for many, many years)...
So my point is....this country of ours is made up of many different kinds of scenery....check them out...you can find awesome, magnificent landscape throughout....just open your eyes and feast upon what there is out there & appreciate it for it's beauty. Remember, you are usually passing through...you don't have to live there...and if what makes you happy is your own back yard....park your RV there for a spell and enjoy that too....life is short...beauty is everywhere...........

AMEN
I try to remember to always think of the quote "It's best unspoken, left unsaid, than bead it back on broken thread"... but I will say that parts of this exchange did make me very uncomfortable and sad.

I have found beauty and wonders in every place I have visited. And when I return to an area I've seen before, there are always new wonders to discover.

Being an Army brat, I have lived in lots of places in this beautiful country. I, for one, love the desert with it's unique landscapes as well as the East Coast with it's huge trees and intense green colors. I like the East Coast from Florida up. I love Texas and Oklahoma and feel the most at home there because I have lived there the longest. All this is to say, there is beauty everywhere. Enjoy the uniqueness of each type of land.

My 2€ worth. I love it all!! Every place we've been so far I find wonderful, open and beautiful. Remember, I have lived on a small island most of my life. Each island is a microcosm of geology with a rain forest, desert, beach, mountain, etc. and I love each for their unique beauty. What is so mind blowing for me is how much openness and land there is on the mainland USA. When you live in Urban and suburban areas you just don't realize how much open space there is until you get out there and drive across Texas or Kansas or _______ fill in the blank. We all have our favorites and ain't it great we don't all have to agree? :P
