Downsizing, Shopping, and Other Preparations

3 huge loads of stuffed moved by Uhaul truck (1 to my brother's house, 1 to mine, and 1 to the rescue mission). Still have more to sort and box though I think mom is ready to do dump runs instead.

Went to Camping World for the basics (e.g. sewer hose kit, 50 amp power cord, fresh water hose, etc...) which mom is mailing to Nexus rather than us lugging on the train.

Time has gone by so quickly!

I agree. Check and you might need to return some of those items. Should be with the rig purchase.

It should come with the proper electric cord unless you are talking about an extension but I would wait on that. As far as sewer hose and water hose, those are not usually included anymore like they used to be. Sometimes a dealer will give you a "gift certificate" if they have a store but they are usually much cheaper at Walmart.

I would call the dealer and make sure you need that stuff before I would go to the expense of mailing them there. Most new rigs come with the kit with dumping, chemical and fresh water hoses.

I got with my rig from the dealer...two white water hoses, one flat green rolled up hose...two sewer hoses and attachements...two pressuer things to put on white water hose... came with attached electric 30 amp cord...got a plug to hook up to a reg. out let...a round level...and a few other odds and ends...not sure why I got all this...so make sure before you buy any more stuff...

Are you sure you need a 50 amp cord, most Class C's are 30 amp. I would hate to have to mail a 50 amp cord, those things are heavy.

Now for some clarifications:

- We're getting the RV directly from the manufacturer not a dealer. Nexus does not work through dealers.

- While we were there in February, I had asked about a "starter kit" and was told that they don't typically provide one because they found the majority of people either had they're own equipment from a previous RVs or wanted very specific items that varied from owner to owner so it was easier to let people just outfit as they pleased. Nexus said they would provide a kit if we asked them to but we opted to go ahead take care of it ourselves after all.

She is full-timing and wanted the option to run all of her gizmos and gadgets and appliances when she's at campgrounds. The 30 amp adapter is partially because as you all know, not all campgrounds have 50 amps, and sometimes she just doesn't want to spend the money for 50 amps.

I have 50 amps on my travel trailer -- an upgrade done before we bought it. And that cord is HEAVY. We bought a square laundry basket & coiled it in there. We take out what we need & leave the rest in the basket under the rig. When it's time to put it away we coil it back up and hoist it into the storage bay. Works LOTS better than trying to handle it.

I don't know if you've planned for it, but you might want to invest in a good surge protector. I lucked out and was able to buy Anita's and am delighted with it. It's from Progressive Industries and checks for all sorts of things. The best part is that it will shut down and not allow electricity into your rig. I also found out (through a conversation with the maufacturer) that you can add a 30 amp adaptor to the surge protector and it'll still do what it's supposed to. Pretty neat!

We had Nexus hardwire the surge protector. In that way mom doesn't have to remember to hook it up or take it down and no worry of someone stealing it. We had several people mention at the Rving Women rally that they had to replace surge protectors because people at some campgrounds were stealing them. Some ladies were using locks to keep them from walking away! I'll look into the adapter. Sounds interesting.

We think so too BUT now mom has the "what ifs" going on! What if the color she picked isn't pretty after all? What if the floor they went with clashes with the cabinets? I even got a "what if" the driver side door is too high? (She already checked that in Elkhart and it's fine.) Mom, you're going to be fine!
