Loved your story, but I also know how you must have felt. Glad you found good drugs for the little darling.
After 3 dogs who hate to ride Toby seems to really enjoy it and waits by his leash any time he thinks I'm getting ready to go out the door! All I have to say if he is outside and not wanting to come in is, it's time to go for coffee.

Wow---scary story! (Very well-written, however!)

Both Dinah and Molly settle right down in their crates in the back seat of my truck when we travel, thank heavens. Dinah hates getting into it, as she knows it means she will be cooped up for a while, but once in, she settles right down and sleeps the entire way until our next stop. There is no way I could travel with them without crates, however. Just knowing I can open the doors safely with no fear of anyone escaping is the only thing keeping me sane!

I tried locking a howling cat in the shower and she managed to climb over the top with an e-collar on. After 3 hours I was ready to take some drugs. The cats that usually get to go camping have a medical problem. My DH draws the line at being a cat nurse. The next time I have to bring one I will bring a carrier that will fit through the shower door.

I've been thinking about getting a crate for her. I suspect she had been crated in her previous home.

My guys are all crate trained, they get fed in their crates, the doors are open during the day and they often sleep in them. They mostly love the crates and go to them without fuss when I say "crate", "cage" or "go to bed". I wouldnt be able to drive at all if I had any lose in the van, I would be so worried about accidents. When I leave the house for any reason they go in their crates. That way I am sure they are safe and protected.

I'm not against crates - they have their time and place. But will argue about whether the dog is safer in a crate in the house or in a vehicle, even, but especially in a house. A crated dog will be more likely to not survive a house fire, for example. Crates are good for training and with multiple dogs might be good for traveling, but I'm not of the family that likes crates for animals when they are left alone. Teach them what is to be expected of them. Yep, there will be accidents, and leaving the crate door open (as crated dogs often find that their "comfort" zone, is always good, but I don't like seeing dogs crated all day while people work, for example, then again all night. Course, my dogs always have to sleep with me lol ... so wouldn't be an option at night. And one dog I rescued couldn't be crated without major trauma. So she never got crated even at the vets - if I had to leave her, I'd come to get her and they'll be allowing her the run of the back of the vets. Was so funny cuz they were sure she'd be okay in one of the crates there ... never was.

my sister gave me an extra crate when I got Shadow and at her house he was crated at night as we had no idea of what
to expect...it's set up and Shadow goes to it when he wants to and when my youngest granddaughter was here and a couple
other times I put him in and shut the door and he was fine but by and large it's his choice ...and usually his choice is with in a few inches
to a few feet of me...the few feet is when he chooses an attitude and is not happy with me then he lets me know cold shoulder type
