I'm intrigued with Cove Palisades but Lynn2 reminded me that at that time of year there will probably be forest fires in the area and the smoke could be bad. Heck, the campground could catch fire in one of those fires. Of course, it could be raining and blowing 50 at the coast. There isn't a perfect place to go and we can't control the weather but I'd like to find a place where we could all just sit around the campground/rv park and have an opportunity to go and explore the area. I will tell you that the coast is only about 60 miles from Silver Spur. I'm not pushing that one, just letting people know that the coast isn't that far away if someone needs their fix LOL
There are so many state parks at the coast and I looked at all of them online and have driven through most of them as well. Fort Stevens seemed to be a good choice for its location and things to do in the area. I'm going to take a day and drive up there and check out the park since that's one that I haven't seen in person. I think wherever we go, we'll have to drive to get anywhere (store, shopping, sightseeing, hiking, etc).
We have lots of time to decide and we shouldn't have any issues reserving spots in the state parks after Labor Day. I'm pretty much just looking at state parks and the one rv park that I believe we can get a good deal at if we belong to Passport America. There are a few other private campgrounds I found that might be a little more per night but they usually offer a weekly rate that saves a little money.
I don't mind finding a place to have the gtg but it won't be the perfect place for everyone.
Thanks,
Laura
