RED's First Adventure continues....

Well we have learned so much on our first trip. We headed north to see a friend in Weston, MO and then volunteer at the Shrine circus in St. Charles, MO. Our first day, Sunday, got us to Lake Murray, OK. Spent the night at the campground where Dawn is camp host. Birdie was there for a couple days as well. A wonderful reunion and loved spending time with my sistas. We planned to just spend the night, but the wind started to blow so we spent a second night. Dawn, Birdie and I went hiking for a while and had a great time. We took pictures, but Birdie and Dawn have them in their cameras.

Tuesday we drove 8 hrs up to Weston, MO and parked on top of the hill on our friend's farm. It was great fun. We had planned to stay a couple days. However it was suppose to snow on Wed and we were afraid we would get stuck on the hill for a few days and we needed to get to St. Charles.

We drove all day on Wed to St. Charles and settle into RV park right along the Missouri River. Tyler and I like walking the trail along the river.



We volunteered for circus performances on Thurs, Fri & Sat. Then the snow came. Wasn't suppose to be very much. Everyone said it wouldn't stick. And it kept coming and coming and coming. And dogs still need to be walked.

By the time it stopped snowing there was 13" on the ground, on our slide out awnings and on top of RED. Snow on slide awnings frozen. Could not close slides. If we waited for nature and sun to let it melt we would be here until Friday. I started to walk to the office to borrow a ladder and I saw two men on tall ladders removing snow from the top and slides of another MH. So we had them come take care of RED. So, now we are ready to leave first thing in the AM.

YIKES Red!! How did RED do in the cold and snow? Hope the heater worked like it's supposed to. Enjoy the rest of your shake down trip.

Gosh, that was like taking the final exam on your shake down trip!
Hopefully since it got above freezing today, the main roads will be clear by tomorrow so you can head south.

What a shakedown trip!!

Love your GD's Flat Stanley. My GD's Flat Natalie is with me now only very different. Almost life size and colored to resemble Natalie on regular paper! I bought poster board to help give her some 'body'.....the wind is not kind!

Ouch, that was a LOT of snow. I love looking at it ... even love visiting it ... but like to know it's coming and decide it lol. How was the circus? Were you able to continue with all the shows?

On Sat all the shows were over sold. A lot of tickets are general admission and you can come any day you want. Sat eve it was terrible. Everyone knew the snow was coming and wanted to use their ticket for SAT. The arena holds approx 7,000 seats. There must have been 8,000. There were fights over seats, etc. On Sunday, the first show only had 1,200 and second show not much more. But it was so much fun watching the kids and the clowns and elephants and tigers and bears...OH MY!!

We learned how to use the electric heat...which are heat pumps that are part of the air conditioners....except they are LOUD. So we used the gas furnaces at night when we were sleeping and the electric when we left the coach. Also had a small space heater to help take the chill off and set thermostats to lower temp.

Oh my that is a lot of snow...reminds me of the snow storm that hit up in Utah last fall just as
I was getting ready to leave more than once we've had to have one of the kids get up on
top and sweep and get rid of snow/ice so the slides can come in
have a good trip back home

Sounds like a fun trip in spite of the snow storm. RED is sure getting all systems tested on your first trip, it's a good thing you spent that time in the drive way reading the manuals and practicing.

What was the RV park you stayed at in ST Charles, MO? I've been thinking of going there when spring finally comes to see New Town at St Charles. It is a planned community and sounds lovely.

We stayed at Sundermeier. It is on the Katy Trail (250 mile trail that follows the MO river). If you like to walk or ride bikes you can get to the old French Town and the casino by trail. Otherwise it is a typical RV park that charges top rates cuz they don't have any competition. Clean, wifi, cable, etc.

I've stayed there and was hoping you had found another place. It is way over priced and there is NO shade except along the back where it looked like all permanent sites. The people were very nice though and the maintenance man spent about two hours with me fixing a water problem in Elsie he discovered I had when I was hooking up.
