Wannabe with questions

Postby cloudpattern » Thu Mar 21, 2013 11:58 am

Hello all,

Fantastic idea and fantastic forum! I am (sadly) only in the planning stages as I still have 7 years to retirement but it is awesome to know there are strong women out there leading the way!

I'm investigating rig choices and I wonder if any women are traveling alone in a 5th wheel?
There are so many things that make them attractive but I'm wondering how feasible it is to hitch one by yourself?

Any help is appreciated and I'm excited to have a chance to learn from all your posts.

Dreaming in the land of the midnight sun.

Welcome Cloud, (is that what you'd like to be called?). There are women on here solo with every kind of rig. So you'll be able to get answers about women pulling a 5th wheel solo.

Hi Carman. Carolyn pulls a 34' and I pull a 31' 5th wheel. Definitely doable.

Hi Colleen - that's great news! Any tips on rig selection that might make a difference?

Welcome, Carman. I tow a travel trailer but once drove a big rig which is basically a very large truck with a very large 5th wheel. Not that much of a deal. You can do it.

welcome, you've found the right place to get your questions answered. Many on here that do the fifthwheel, I have a
fifthwheel but no truck so I can't speak for that part but I certainly like how it feels roomy when I'm in it, and being
that it has an "upstairs" it makes me feel like I have somewhere else to go other than to just turn around and be in
another room. What I do recommend though is to get something your comfortable with, look and do the research
and when you have your mind made up, do an actual sit in routine, climb in the tub, open the cabinets, sit on the toilet
etc. I've known folks that bought and then found out they couldn't stand up in the shower cause they were too tall.
Many others will chime in and you'll get lots of opinions here. :D

Get something you are comfortable with towing and make sure you have them close the slides so you can see what you have access to while traveling.

Welcome....and what Ava says. Look at everything and anything. Many times folks head one way only to be surprised to find something else that seems to fit their needs even better. Think how you want to use your rig and the sort of traveling and places you might prefer to stay. Everyone has different wants and needs.....just ask us

Thank you for the responses! I'm getting laughed at a lot for all the research I'm doing when I'm still so far out from the purchase, but there is so much to learn I think 7 years might just be about right! Either way, this forum is an excellent confidence builder and I can't wait to get out there with all of you!

So am enjoying someone else's typo ... I hope she will buy it used, but butting it used might be more interesting.
