Hello to Olive in SA!

I'm about 140 miles NW of you in central tx and I gotta say,,, the place to go right now is to head towards Longview and points all around it. The azaleas and dogwood are in bloom just east of you.... and points northeast. In fact,, my little family plans to head out the first week in April as my cousin who lives in Longview says that's "prime time" for the dogwoods and azaleas as i said before.

Just take out your map and plot your course ,, AFTER you do your driveway thing. Have a blast and enjoy the view. Should be plenty of places to camp along the way.

Happy trails!!! AND WELCOME TO THE FORUM! !!

Welcome to the forum from Kerrville. I'm leaving Thursday morning for Tucson and a visit with Beth and Ava. The trip from SA to El Paso is easy altho sometimes windy.

I've stayed at an RV park (used to be KOA) at exit 234. This trip I'm planning on staying at Saddleback Mtn RV Pk in Balmorhea Exit 212. Its a Passport American park so only $10.00 a nite. Then I plan on staying at Little Vineyard RV pk in Deming, NM. It has a heated, indoor pool. Then on to Eloy, AZ for a week at Desert Valley RV Park. I'll be back in Kerrville on (or about) April 1st if you'd be interested in a two or three day GTG (get together) at a nearby park. I'd suggest a LCRA (Lower Colorado River Authority) park called Black Rock (www.lcra.org/parks) . Nice small park on Buchanan Lake.

The best advise I was given when I started RVing from an old timer was; "Drive the front and the rest will follow along" and "Swing wide" (my rig was 30' - now have a 20' Roadtrek). My first overnight was right in Kerrville at Schriner Park. Had to call my neighbor to bring me the dog food and my medicine which I forgot in my excitement of my first overnight.

I use two printed lists for my trips. One is a list of food items I need (forgot the mayo so nothing for sandwiches) and one for clothes, computer, meds, etc. I don't think I could travel without my lists - memory ain't what it used to be, you know.

Again welcome and just ask any questions - we're a helpful bunch.

Thank you to everyone for the very warm welcome. You've already made this process so much easier. I just confirmed the appointment to take possession of Bessie on Monday morning. I'll get my walk through at the same time. That night Olive, my dog, and I will sleep in her on the street in front of the house. I think my first overnight away will be near Boerne, TX. The dealership has a place I can stay. Then I head east.

During walk throughs don't be shy about taking pictures, videos or writing stuff down. Most walk throughs seem to pass by in a fog....when you have to go back remember what you were told.... :)

Nikki, I know so well that feeling between "elation and terror". lol. That sure describes my initial foray into RVing. I did a weekend at a local state park but I did not use all my systems on that shakedown so when I left FL for NY, I still didn't know how to do a few things - like heat my water! I also recall not remembering to have my electric line plugged back into the RV so my generator would not work. I was very fortunate to meet people along the way who helped me out. You will too. Have fun and welcome!

Thanks, Tina. I plan to show up with lots of questions and my camera. I think my phone does video, too. I'll record the whole thing one way or another. I'll keep y'all posted. :D

Hi Joan,
Everyone I've talked to has assured me that I'll get lots of help along the way. It seems that most people have made the mistakes I'm afraid of making and lived to laugh about it. I figure the worst that can happen is I end up in a hotel for a night. Only as a last resort of course.
