Back when-updated to through the years

Postby Redetotry » Fri Mar 08, 2013 9:21 pm

Found this old photo in a closet today taken when I was about nineteen. Good grief where did those straight white teeth and all that hair go :o  I used to pin my hair up with bobby pins every night  I can still remember how to get the top to wave I had to do one row one direction and the next roll the opposite direction.I don't know if you can even buy bobby pins any more! I have to laugh when I see most young girls around here, they just pull their hair up in a messy ponytail!

Does anyone else have pictures from the past.

Finding this picture got me started looking through my pictures. Put a little time line together, boy some years were better than others!

No wonder I'm not standing next to my Mom after her putting that silly hat on me! from the 40's
Well no one to blame but myself for this unfortunate hat choice what was I thinking! from the 70's

How beautiful. I have lots of old pics ... have posted some, I think on here, before. My high school graduation picture I don't think ever looked like me ... but I have pics from one year to the next where I looked like two different people. Just in the last 10 years have I grown to look like my sister ..... I guess things all come around.

Nice pics - I remember pin curls because I was terrible at it. Looked like a porcupine with all the ends sticking out every which way. I also remember in order to have a smooth pageboy I had to sleep on giant metal rollers! Some of you gals will be amazed that we didn't have hair dryers, curling irons, and styling tools so most of us had to sleep on wet hair with curlers or pincurls!

Oh, oh, I take that back! I remember a time when my mother promised her high school friend that I would go to her son's prom with him! The boy's mother had a curling iron that was heated up on their wood stove and I could smell my hair scorching as she tried to coax curls into my straight, thin hair. If I wondered why the boy didn't have a date of his own I soon found out when I spent the whole evening with a room full of teens I had never met and they avoided him like the plague.

I will look up some of my pic later when I have a better connection....but with Mitch or Beth"s help there is a thread in the history which I believe that some of us have posted pictures from our youth. I believe there were/are some stunning pics that made it to the forum that time, also

Yep, we all had our 'whistle' days...About 5 years ago, a good friend and I went to an annual event in Little Rock called 'Riverfest'...we dressed 'cool' for two 60's. We had to cross a bridge and on the way back we got whistled at by some young guys..we thought the whistles must have been for someone else but we could see they were looking at us...of course, they might have been having a little fun with two old women . I would love to see more of the yesteryears photos as I must have missed the first one...I will sift through my pictures and put one up.

This is my H.S. grad picture  Yes, and that "do" required large rollers  And I remember when we had long hair (surfer girl look) we actually would iron each other's hair on the ironing board using mom's iron to create that long sleek "Cher" look.  I tried making it smaller, but photobucket not cooperating :x

WOW! All the beautiful girls have turned into beautiful women over the years! All my photos are back at home in the mountain house, which is probably a good thing as I was never a beautiful thing at any age! However, there was one year that I gave myself a DA haircut (Duck's ass) and I guess that freed me from having to ever wear curlers of any sort for the rest of my life! I felt a wonderful freedom, and I did a great hair cutting job, as I recall. I must have a pic of that somewhere in my archives.

Oh how I remember those horrible rollers and either sleeping on them or using one of those huge hair dyers with the caps. Between that and my mother making me sleep on rag rollers when I was a kid and sending me to school with long curls and satin bow in my hair, it is no wonder that I have short hair these days!
