Workamping job in Silver City, New Mexico

Postby retiredhappy » Mon Jan 12, 2009 9:02 pm

Got my summer job in Silver City New Mexico at the KOA. Housekeeping - 11am to about 1pm, five days a week. Free site, electric, discounted propane and $110 a month. If I work over 15 hours a week, I get paid extra. I LOVE this area so couldn't be happier. Never did hear from the City of Gallup about Red Rock. Being typical government, they're probably still debating it. Okay now, so anyone near Silver City come visit me. I'll be there from April 1st thru Labor Day and possibly thru September. Was really beginning to wonder if I was going to get a job. Just don't seem to be as many listed as years before. Here at Guadalupe I'm told they have half the people as they've had in past years. Think people are afraid to spend any money. Last time I was in the Silver Cityt area I visited a wolf sanctuary and I intend to return. You actually got to go in with the wolves - I was in heaven.

Karen, glad you found work that you think you will like. I sure hope it is in a better place than where you were in Wyoming. We're still considering going full-time so, who knows, maybe we'll be heading your way later this year.

CONGRATULATIONS, Karen! What a great deal that sounds like! And to have that wolf sanctuary nearby...I would be there virtually all my free time! Wolves are my favorite critters on this planet!! I can't WAIT to see some pictures of them that you will surely take!

What will the weather be like there in the summer? Will you have to run your AC all the time? I need to get out a map and see just where that place is. A job in this time of NO JOBS AVAILABLE is a treasure! You lucked out!

Great news Karen. I'm glad that you got something that you will enjoy. Sounds like a great location and with places to go on the off hours too. KOAs are probably good places to work. Those aren't bad hours and you are getting a little extra too. Whew!

Karen, how cool, I've had two friends that are from Silver City and they both have
told me how pretty it was, I've never been there but its only about a 5 hour drive
from where I am.

It's a great area - and that job sounds ideal - 2 hours a day normally? Wow. And yep, Sparkle and I will be going through there - so we should be able to get together. Too bad you cant take 4 or 5 days off in April and come to the rally - it's only going to be a few hours away from you.

Looks like a very nice place for you to summer, Karen. I did a search and found this. Lots to do, it seems.

Here is a picture of me at the Wolfsong Sanctuary in 2007. Can't describe the feeling to be in with a pack of wolves, totally awesome.

Checked the temps - summer is in the 80's and the nights stay in the 50's. My kind of weather.

Owners even said they have a doggy post outside the restrooms so I could tie my dogs up and bring them to work with me. Like I'm gonna get them off the bed.

Hopefully this will be the best workamping job I've had yet.

80s days and 50s nights?? Sounds like Shangrila to me! WOW! This will be one spot I put on place to go and possibly stay list. I wouldn't need AC at all, it sounds like.

After seeing you with the wolves, I KNOW I wanna go there! It's my dream to touch a REAL wolf.

Thanks so much for the pics and the info, and I will follow your posts all summer to see what's up with you out there!
