Beautiful Sunday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Good Morning,

I could not fall asleep last night so got up until 3. I seem to be coming down with a cold so have it in mind to do my big (blankets, etc) laundry and head back to Salome today in case the cold really sets in. So, I think the insomnia was due to dread. I know I only have to be there a few more weeks, but I just do not want to go back.

Yesterday saw some progress with the organizing and sorting through clothes. I have quite a nice stack of things to go into storage - or the trash.

Love that the GTGs just keep going!! So many fun things happening with rigs - well, and some not so fun :(

Have a good day all.

We have had two sunny days but cold and windy. I'm glad I didn't decide to go to the lake we would have frozen. It's not as cold as in Florida but too cold to be on the water. I bet there are white caps on the lake.

My DH usually grills a steak on Sunday but I never did make it to Sam's to get some so I had to cook dinner. I have been on a mission to clean the freezer so decided to make a shrimp stew. Don't like to have to spend an hour cleaning shrimp to cook something but now one less thing in the freezer. How do you end up with a freezer full of food and nothing anyone wants to eat? The pantry is the same way.

Red, we use to have something called blue laws. There were a lot of stores that couldn't open on Sunday and things you couldn't buy if a store was open. Texas might have something like that. Hope everything works out on your motorhome purchase.

Carolb, glad you got to meet Colleen and see some of San Antonio. You are going to have a GTG record that will be hard to beat.

Snowball had some more bites on his bad leg. I thought he might have been hit by the 4-wheeler but he must have been in a fight. He is enjoying laying on the sofa and watching the Animal Planet on TV. Doesn't take long for them to get spoiled rotten. The vet is now giving an antibiotic shot that is suppose to last 2 weeks. I find that hard to believe but we'll see. Hope it works. Would be a lot easier than trying to get a pill down a cat.

Sharon, wish I could follow Karen to CA. That would be a fun trip. There are things going on here that I'm hoping will be cleared up in March so I can go somewhere. My housekeeping leaves a lot to be desired. My son had something smart to say about the shows on hoarding. I told him that they make me feel good, my house isn't that bad. I managed to get the new files started for 2013. Now if I can get my taxes done.

Many years ago the auto industry spent big bucks lobbying in state legislatures to have laws passed banning the sale of vehicles on sundays. They said their people deserved a day off. How in heck legislatures could pass those laws but allow other retail businesses to be open is beyond me. I'm familiar with this because it was a big fight in Illinois and they won. I'm guessing they won in Texas also. I still say it's not a law that should be enforceable unless all retail businesses, like the blue laws usually encompass, are included. Oh, some car makers fought with big bucks because they said it wouldn't be fair without the law because then their competitors could open and cause them to lose sales. Isn't that what free commerce is about?

Actually Martha has it correct. Texas has blue laws - and actually the auto is about the last of it. I can remember when no stores were open on Sunday, then just the grocery stores. Then the department stores started opening up on Sundays during the holiday shopping season against the blue laws. The legislature finally changed and it was just recently that you can now buy hard liquor on Sunday.

And the automotive dealers - they have a choice. They have to be closed one day during the weekend but they can choose which one. So most choose Sunday, although I have seen a couple closed on Saturday instead.

When I was 16 I worked at Kroger. We could sell groceries on Sunday but that was all, couldn't even sell utensils, tape, etc.

I remember those stricter blue laws from when I was a kid too. Now, not much but auto dealerships are not open on Sundays.

Remember they would actually tape off certain aisles or sections of aisles because they couldn't sell that stuff on Sunday?

When I was a kid growing up in SoCal, all the stores, banks, gas stations, etc were closed on Sunday. I was never aware of any laws  Silly me. I thought it was because everyone went to church and had Sunday supper with their families :P I think I was and, sometimes, still am naive.
