Joan, I met my DH through cutting horses. I was the secretary for a cutting club and he was a member. We both showed about 30 years ago but I went back to work and eventually quit riding. My DH started colts and rode outside horses for years. We are down to one horse, my DH is 85 and still riding. He keeps looking at the sales and wanting a colt but hope he has better sense than to buy another young horse.

The Cutting Futurity is something to see. Between all the Non-Pro and Open classes it goes on for almost 3 weeks. It is something to see when it gets down to the finals. Since these horses have been bred for their ability since the 1940's when it gets to the finals a lot of the horses will be half brothers and sisters or closely related. The big futurity starts near the end of November and goes up into December. After the Ft Worth futurity there will be smaller ones in different parts of the country.

A futurity is an age event for horses. The futurity for cutting horse is held in the fall of a horse's 3rd year. A foal has to be entered as a baby and you make payments every so often until the show. If you want to enter a horse at a later age there is a big jump in the entry fee. A horse can't have been shown before the futurity. There are also futurities for race horses and maybe for other events.

If you have never seen a cutting horse work, they have to pick out one cow from a herd of cows and keep it from getting back. Cutting horses are smart and athletic.

I love to watch cutting horses. Have seen Chuck cutting out cattle in real life. It is neat to watch. I like to watch the professionals too.

Cutting horses are pretty much pure poetry in motion. It amazes me how they can stop and pivot almost sitting down.

Martha, thank you for the Futurity info. I will have to put that on my bucket list for RV travel.

Red, have you ever been to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. I think all that is starting up next week. There are all kinds of horse shows that go on. We went to the rodeo one year when Michael Jackson and his brothers were performing. He was a little kid and I didn't have a clue who they were. Didn't know why all the kids were trying to climb over the railings to get in the arena.

What an interesting topic this has turned into, from horses to makeup to amazing women with pretty smiles! Thanks for al that sharing! Does it hurt to have eyeliner tatooed on, Beth? I cannot use any either as it makes my eyes all red. I wear absolutely no makeup, although recently I have tried penciling in my eyebrows that have now turned so white and colorless that they appear to not exist any more! My son was the first to notice, stare at me, and comment about it-----said it looked good, actually, although I expected him to say I looked like a clown!

Happy travels!

I'm a George Strait fan too. When the women I worked with were raving about how cute Michael Bolton was I told them they didn't know what cute was. George Strait was cute and a cowboy too.

The rodeo is on in San Antonio now so they may have staggered the one in Houston for the benefit of the participants.

Yep, I went to the the rodeo last year with a friend that was in town. However didn't get to see much rodeo as we had tickets to see Blake Shelton. Hope to go this year sometime. DH won't go. He spent years going with his kids, then with a girlfriend that was on the board and they had special tickets.. His son called the x girlfriend to get seats for himself a few years ago. So I'll go if I can find a friend to go with. Hey Maggie!! Got someone for the other ticket??? Or maybe another day?? :P

Soos, it hurts while its happening, but the pain stops immediately when they stop. So all I had to do was raise my hand and she stopped. A few seconds later, I'd let her go again. I found it totally worthwhile, for me. I couldn't be convinced to do lip color, though. But, if necessary will eventually have them go over the eyes again. Its been 4 or so years and no need yet.

By the way, they call it permanent make up. But I now say I've got tattoos. Which I always said would never happen. Another reason to never say never.

Beth - pretty brave of you to get "tattoos". One of my sisters did her eyeliner, eyebrows and lips quite a few years ago and has since needed refreshing a time or two. Always thought it neat that she didn't need to do makeup every morning. Perfect solution for women RVers!
