Nope. So I don't know why I get my Los Angeles feed all the way up in Washington without having to do something special. I was told that once I got more than 150 miles away from home that I'd lose my local network channels. It's never happened. But I won't complain!

Red, have you tried to hook up your receiver and see if you still get your local channels without calling to change the zip code? It might be fun to try it some time and see ...

Before we got the DNS, we took a trip to Solomon's Island, MD for a long weekend....hooked up the satellite, and discovered we were still getting Harrisburg stations and that was farther than 150 miles, but went a little farther south....had to call for the switch...go figure....

Just remember to turn on the power switch for the roof antenna... That's the step I forget the most....

Lori, thanks so much for saying this. I had not been getting any local TV through my regular antenna. After this post, I went and looked. Sure enough I did not have the switch set to Antenna/Cable. Had it set on Satellite, which I don't have to do to get satellite. Duh, head slap here.

When we were in Quartzsite, AZ we hooked up and all the TX channels were listed, but no reception at all. That's when I called and had them change to AZ. Worked all through AZ. Did not have to change again till we were up in Carlsbad, NM. Now back in SE TX and will see what I get when I hook up at home.

Somewhere online there is a map showing the approximate area covered by Directv spot beams.
Spot beams are where locals are broadcast and by breaking them up, bandwidth is saved.
All the non-locals are beamed throughout the United States.
That's why no matter where you are in the lower 48, you'll get Fox News on channel 360.

So. Do ya have any profound insights as to why I still got Los Angeles's ABC, NBC, and CBS way up in Wyoming? And in Washington?

When I first got Directv in the Seattle area, I made it all the way to California before losing Seattle stations. Guess someone forgot to tell the satellites or receiver

I had DNS when getting both LA and NY. Sorry to hear I only will get one when I start DNS again next month

If Dish is 2nd most hated, surely Directv is first!! I end up yelling at the recorded message it is so frustrating!

Thank you for asking about our broadcast network service for your mobile vehicle. We offer our mobile customers DNS (distant network service) programming of ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC network feeds from New York or Los Angeles, along with a CW network feed from Washington DC, or San Diego and a PBS feed. This 6-station Mobile DNS package is available for $15.00 per month.

We look forward to providing you with these DNS Network services. However, before we can add the DNS networks to your mobile vehicle receiver, federal law requires that you send us the following information:

1. Photocopy of your vehicle registration
2. Mobile Vehicle Declaration of Intent form (Form enclosed).
3. Photocopy of commercial driver’s license (if you are requesting service for a commercial vehicle).
4. Application for a New Mobile Vehicle Account form (This form is required if your residential account has more than one receiver and one of those receivers is located in your mobile vehicle. Form enclosed).

What you need to know before you send us this information:

1. The federal law does not allow DNS programming authorized for a mobile vehicle to be viewed on receivers located in your permanent residence. If you have, or plan to have, receivers in both your home and mobile vehicle, you must have a separate DIRECTV account for each location.

2. To take advantage of some DIRECTV services, you must keep your system receiver continuously connected to a land-based phone line. Because this continuous connection is not possible for systems in vehicles, Mobile Vehicle service does not include the ability to order/view pay per view movies/events with your remote.
When you return all the paperwork listed above, we will review your account. If we need to create a new account for your mobile vehicle, we will remove the mobile vehicle receiver(s) from your residential account and activate the programming packages you have selected on the completed Application for a New Mobile Vehicle Account form. The programming on your residential account will not change.

You may suspend your residential account or Mobile Vehicle account up to 4 times per calendar year. Each suspend request must be for a minimum of 30 days and can not exceed 6 months.

Please allow 11 to 14 days for us to verify that the information is complete, create a second account (if applicable) and activate the Mobile DNS programming. If you are not receiving DNS programming after 14 days, first check to make sure your dish is pointed to the correct position. Wow....didn't need to do all that for our DNS, just the request for regional cause we were without our local channels when we were out of PA & had to do the call & change location thing.... guess our acct. was set up from the beginning as a mobile acct. in 2005...with local network service...in 2006 we added the DNS and got the east/west coast both...then they did the "choose east or west" 2 yrs. ago....all I can figure is that we were "grandfathered" in on the DNS....

As I was trying to switch my 12 volt TV over to the 120 with the adapter (that I haven't used in years ) so that the 12 volt plug will be available to run the dome when I get that far...the TV decided to give up the ghost. No TV with either the 12 volt connection or the adapter. I am in this deep, I may be getting a small new TV very soon..... (and yes I tried my GPS in the 12 volt plug and it is still working so the verdict is the TV has died..... I guess bumping around in an RV for 3 or 4 years will do that!

If you're anywhere near a Best Buy you might find some good deals on TVs right now. Everyone says that the best time to buy one is just before the Super Bowl weekend, but I'm wondering if that sale might extend to after, just to get rid of whatever wasn't sold.

One of the things I learned when getting a TV for the trailer bedroom was that there's a qualitative difference between LCD and LED TVs. I believe that the LEDs are better, especially when viewing from an angle (as I do when lying in bed). So you might want to check that, too.

Who was the first?

J C Penny's was the first. Don't know why Penny's was number one. I don't have any complains about Penny's but Dish Network is #1 with me. lol

Since I take a receiver from my house, when I get away from the local channels the guide still has the information for the local channels. Some of the channels will have a show but it's not what the guide says it is.
