Crazy Weather Wednesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Crazy Weather Wednesday

Postby Colliemom » Wed Jan 30, 2013 8:00 am

Good Morning from the crazy weather 45th,

As Kathleen said yesterday, the weather has been interesting to say the least, winter to spring and back to winter with anything thrown in between. Yesterday we had a record hight of 45, which I know doens't seem like a big deal to those of you in the southern climates, but here, that's mild and the was after a layer of freezing rain which made driving and footing a bit silck. Then last night we had rain move through which melted the snow down on the side roads to the hardpack and created skating rinks on driveways and roads this mornin forcing a lot of schools up here to close for the 2nd time this week. We are now under a winter weather advisory for as much as 3-6 inches + of snow and windy. So, very interesting and never a dull moment winter.

I'm really enjoying all the news and pictures from the FL GTG and also enjoyed those from the AZ GTG as well. Everybody's out having a great time, while I am home cleaning house  Gonna have to do something about that

For those of you who have been concerned about Ms. Tessa, she is still very much here. Having been returned to the anitbiotics she was on previously, for the bacterial infection she had and also some antibiotics for her eye infection, has led to some improvement although she is not eating and is spending a lot of time sleeping. But yesterday she was up and around more, like she was tired of sleeping. She also went for a walk with Sassy and I and at one point was barking her head off at something she apparently spotted across the highway. At another point I noticed she had dropped back a ways from us and when I stopped to check on her, she was trotting up the road like the Energizer bunny catching up. So she still has some quality of life left in the old girl yet. This colliemom is monitoring her though and when I see that she no longer has that qualilty, then I know it is time. Needless to say, it's an emotional up and down here.

Today is supposed to be gym class day, but I haven't decided for sure if I am going in or not. Watching the wather forecast and the fact we are under the advisory, I'm kind of thinking of staying put here instead. Will run to the small store in Waters for some eggs for the kidney diet that Ms. Tessa isn't eating, but Ms. Sassy loves.

So, with that, I shall be off and running here. Have a wonderful day at the GTG, those who are there. Red, it sounds like you and DH are also having a great time, enjoy. Everyone else enjoy your day too.

Okay...2 mentions of needing bail fund.... ...for Irmi....but need details.... ;)

Love, love the group photo, Liz....I count 20.... ;) ;) Can't wait for "the rest of the story & photos"... ;)

Sleeping in the last couple of days is something I haven't done in a very long time....don't get me wrong, I'm loving it, but have this feeling that half the day is gone when I'm sitting here having my 1st cup of coffee at 8am... :)

It's to be very windy here today, so we're batting down the hatches and taking the awning in....also rain coming this evening....

All right, time to finish up my reading here....

Have a great day, all....

Good morning Carolb, Lori (you were posting at same time), and all who follow.

Lori, be sure and batten down your hatches. It doesn't look good heading your way.

Carolb, it was great meeting you! We've had so much fun. Today is my last day here at the GTG. Will be heading a little north tomorrow to Wildwood. JudyB headed out this morning. She said she had about 350 miles to cover today. Wow, that girl can move. I cannot imagine driving that far in a day. Carold and Bob made it in yesterday evening and joined the fun at dinner. Wasn't long after that that Irmi was flanked by not one, but two rangers and walked to Tina's car. Looks like we may need that bail money yet, Lori. It ain't over and out of the woods until the last lady's rig pulls out of here.

Since today is our last day here, Paul and I want to head over to the Interpretive Center. That is the little museum here and we want to be sure and see it before we leave. I cannot believe I have still not seen an alligator. Will have to go look at the river a few more times today. The park is having a coffee and donut breakfast at the pavilion across from Liz and Carold. I think I am going to pass. Like to drink my coffee sitting right here catching up on everyone's day.

Woohoo! My new kayak shipped this morning. Barb is glad there are no alligators at Lake Murray where we will be this summer.  I sure hope I find places to use it between now and then.

Going after another cup of coffee now. I sure hope everyone has a great day and if you are traveling (JudyB), stay safe.

I'm sorry - I get tickled when someone thinks 350 miles is a long way to travel in one day. I can remember when I was a kid growing up, we would do a 350 mile trip for a weekend - leave after Daddy got home from work on Friday, get to my grandmother's around midnight, then turn around and head home Sunday afternoon. Granted I don't do that short turnaround as an adult, but I have easily pulled the trailer over 400 miles in a day and would have kept going if I hadn't run out of daylight. And coming home from AZ - Mark and I did almost 600 the last day just to get home instead of one more night on the road. Without the trailer, I can do over 800 in a day driving to Atlanta. Now that's a long day.

Granted, if I had all the time in the world, my thinking might change. But with limited time off... I'm planning on driving to MI this summer and hope to do it in 2.5 days.

Had storms blow through last night - but nothing major here. Hope the LA folks are ok this morning and travelinana in AR as well.

Good morning Sue & Mitch and all that follow. Glad to hear Tess is gonna be OK. Our paradise weather here in Tucson disappeared and it was 30 when I walked Tyler at 7 this morning  However, the skies are blue and the sun is promising to warm it up a bit today. Yesterday, Dh thought he felt better. We got dressed, went to breakfast, rested, got truck fueled and headed out to the desert museum. OMG, what a beautiful drive!! Giant Saguaro cacti very where. When we got to the museum, DH was not feeling well at all. So, back to the rig and in bed. I put my suit on and headed to the jacuzz. big sign, Out of Order!! time to move!! I did grocery shopping and took Tyler for a walk over to CW. Now waiting to see how DH feels today and if we will extend another day. Suppose to leave tomorrow. Would have to leave by Friday cuz they have 300 Airstreams arriving for a rally :P Aloha y'all

This is my post from the other thread that started at the same time. so I edited so they are not identical :P Loving all the pics and stories from FL gtg. So much fun. I too remember driving 350 miles for just the weekend when in college. We would leave right after our last class on Friday and drive 350 mi up to Mammoth Ski resort. Ski all day both Sat and Sun till the lifts closed, then drive back Sun night in time to make early Monday classes. These days 250 is pushing it. Glad we are retired  everyone have a great day and stay safe. Aloha y'all

Sorry you didn't make it to the desert museum. That was a great day for me - maybe because Beth was showing me around!!! We stayed almost next door and had a saguaro at our site. I still didn't get a good photo with the two arms going straight up against the sky :(

 Maggie, in a car, it was not unusual to drive 800-900 miles in a day if we wanted to get somewhere for Chuck and me. We would leave just after midnight from the house and be where we wanted to be by the next night. No way can I do it in the MH. 200-250 miles is max for me. I am a wimp now.  You are like JudyB. You just drive until you get there. It amazes me.

Welcome to Normal where the temp is very fluid! yesterday it was 65 today will be glad to hit 25... what is going on...

Today is a good time to stay covered up in my recliner play on the computer, watch tv and read... burrrrrr

Thank you for the good wishes Carol for my daughter... she is gaining in strength... she sure did not need this awful virus right after the procedure to burn the nerves in her spine... she tried to clean up the poo in her yard but was not able to complete so John helped her...
I cleaned my yard of the nasty stuff and was so glad I did as it rained hard last evening... now a new start for Shadow to make more messes...

Dawn I travel about 200 miles a day and also used to go much farther...

So glad for the wonderful pictures and tales of the FL GTG 2013!! all of you ladies are the best!!
Have a super day everyone

I'm glad you got to see the beauty out there. Not all desert is the same. And I hope you can spend the day at the museum. Don't forget the raptor shows.

By the way, when there are two MC threads, rest assured eventually they will be merged.

I love the driving stories. My sister and I used to put our kids in the car and take off for Mackinac Island -- about 225 miles. We'd play for the day, take the last ferry back to the mainland, and drive home. Geeze, we were young! I don't do 20-hour days any more. :D

I'm so glad Tessa is still having some good times. As long as she's enjoying herself, it's still good.

When I stayed in Port A, Texas, we'd do day trips to Mexico. It was 180 miles one way - spend a day, 180 miles back. While in Q we did a day trip, but only 90 miles one-way from there (about). So I still do those crazy things :)
