Beth and Red in Tucson

Let's get together!

Beth and Red in Tucson

Postby Bethers » Mon Jan 28, 2013 8:32 pm

I drove down to Tucson to spend today with Red. She contacted me to say they were staying longer, was I available. I asked her if she'd enjoy a visit to a mission and she said yes, so after picking her up we went to the Mission San Xavier del Bac. I'll eventually get to a new post about it on my blog, so won't post my pics of it here. But will share some pics of us.

Red wanted the following pic ... look close ... can you see what we can take here?

Yes, that's Holy Water. And it's there for the taking. They even sell little containers for it in the gift shop, if you so desire.

I love this mission. It's old ... founded in 1692, and constantly been an active church/mission.

Then we went to lunch. I kind of had trouble finding the restaurant I wanted. Construction and a memory of 3 years, and not even remembering the restaurants name ... but I got us there and the food was as spectacular as I remembered. And thanks again, Red, for treating me. Totally unnecessary, but greatly appreciated.

I've never had a margarita here, as have always been driving. Red got tea. Some day ... will go back and check out the margaritas. Got to be good as the food sure is. We arrived at 2 and the place was still packed. Our waiter was nice enough to take a picture of the two of us.

Not that I'm glad Larry is sick, but I'm glad Larry is sick (as long as it's not for long) cuz I was thrilled to have the opportunity to spend the day with Red.

Looks like you two had a good time. I need to put the mission on my list of places to visit.

Had a great time with Beth. I'm so glad Beth took the day to drive down and take me to the mission. I'm sorry Larry was sick, but we had a real girl's day touring the mission and a two hour lunch. The mission was really great. I love the old art and statues. Although it is baroque, it has the moorish theme in architecture that reflects the Moor's rule of Spain during that time.

Looks like a great 'girls day out'. :D
The holy water container is just like the one we had in our church. We would take our little holy water bottles up there to fill them up. Even had holy water fonts at our bedroom doorways. Thanks for the little journey down memory lane. (Now I have to look at church this weekend to see if I can find their holy water container - I assume they all still have them.) :D
Anyway, thanks for sharing your day with us... Can't wait to meet each of you someday down the road.

.

Okay, so shoot me. I'm not Catholic.

What is "Holy Water" and why is it dispensed like iced tea?

In Catholicism, Anglicanism, Eastern Orthodoxy, Lutheranism, Oriental Orthodoxy, and some other churches, holy water is water that has been sanctified by a priest for the purpose of baptism; the blessing of persons, places, and objects; or as a means of repelling evil......Wikipedia
