Complete newbie with big dreams

Good luck with your RV purchase! Looks like a really nice rig, and I hope you get it. I am sure the dealer will work with you rather than let you walk away!

We are having fun looking at all the rigs online, and I think we've narrowed our search down a bit, but until we actually get back to the US and can see rigs in the flesh, all we can do is dream and research now. We initially didn't plan on a towed, but after considering how we would travel and the things we'd like to do, I think we've decided to go with a towed, probably a Honda Fit.

I am in Houston, TX right now and this will be my home base. My first trip will be to Oregon, March 8, and I will stay there for at least 6 months using Oregon as my home base and moving around the West Coast. I am considering down the road I may want to tow as well and the Honda Fit would be perfect for that. I need to just drive without towing for awhile to get used to everything. Sooooo excited!

I just found out the dealership has taken my offer AND I can use my automobile as a trade so the decision has been made. What a relief as I have shopped continually now for 4 months and researched everything I could. This rig seems to be the most ideal for me. I chose the Class C over the Class A because I felt it would be more maneuverable and it has more protection in the front end.......just my personal feeling that I needed something around me and in front of me instead of a huge window!

Looks like I will be a proud RV owner at the end of the day! Yeaaaaaaaa! Once I figure out how to post photos here, I will soon.

Hi Karen,

I think I am going to camp my first month at Pheasantridge in Wilsonville, OR as my daughter lives in Forest Grove and that will be close but not too close. It looks like a fairly nice RV park with shopping and bus service within walking distance and since I won't be towing, I think this will be convenient for me. Where are you and do you know anything good or bad about this RV park?

Now if I can just manage the mountains.

Glad to hear your good news. Congrats on getting your offer accepted!

It's a good idea to get comfortable driving your rig without a toad at first. I think we will do the same -- keep it simple.

There's a sub-forum called "Show off your rig", so you should post your photos over there. Looking forward to seeing it! Did you get a new or used rig?

Once you get your rig, Brazos Bend is a good state park to go to for your shakedown cruise. It's not too far and has w/e hookups.

Judy, I am in Southern Oregon but we have a couple of other members close to Wilsonville. One in the Salem area and one in Hillsboro so wont be too hard to find fellow campers. I dont know anything about that RV park. I usually stay in and around the Salem area. Good friend lives there and daughter in Portland so seems easier for me to stay there.

I wouldnt mind coming and staying there if it turns out to be a decent park....you can let me know. Also we can exchange phone numbers and maybe coordinate a visit with a couple of the forum sistahs, at least for lunch or dinner.

Hi and welcome Emily. I missed your intro back in May too. When you get ready to buy your RV and hit the road, just jump right in. I had never driven a MH until the day I bought mine. I definitely survived and I know you and your husband will do just fine. I have been fulltiming since August and love this lifestyle. You will be able to go where ever the winds take you. I look forward to hearing about your adventures and maybe getting to meet you on down the road.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I am very impressed that you are driving a large Class A -- was that your very first motorhome? Do you have a tow'd as well? I am a bit intimidated about the driving part, but that's about my only big concern. We used to own a 30' sailboat, so I understand about the systems to some degree -- the tanks, the pumping out, and all that -- and my husband is very good at all that stuff.

Good news, ladies! Our condo is under contract. This means, assuming the deal goes to closing, that we'll have the money to purchase an RV this year -- or whenever we find what we are looking for.

Emily, I had never driven a motorhome of any kind until the day I bought mine and drove it off the lot. I have pulled a toad as well. Jumped right in there too, . Figured I might as well get all my fears out the way right from the beginning. Also figured I might as well learn to do it all right from the git-go. The driving is intimidating at first, for sure, but just jump in. The water's fine. You can do it. If you can do a sailboat, you can do this.
