Should be just fine. Just don't leave it unguarded. May have squirrels or racoons stopping by in some parks. I cook outside with an electric skillet and a slow cooker, but stay close same as when cooking on the campfire. Now, what are you going to put in that crock pot???

I cook outside all the time when camping at the state parks. As others have said, just don't leave it unattended.

Yep, what they both said. I use my crock pot outside all the time.

When I first saw the heading, I thought you might be going to put the wildlife IN the crockpot. Glad to hear you are not.

I think it really depends on the park. I have been in some where I would not have left even covered food alone for a minute! I once had a squirrel climb right up on my lap when my back was turned, once. Scared me to death because I know how they bite and I could feel the scratchy claws as he used my bare legs as a tree.

That was what I thought too. Was reluctant to read it at first... :o

When I was camping in California, I had a scrub jay trying to steal my food and actually made off with a hamburger bun on the picnic table! He was bold! He followed me everywhere the whole time I was there, even to the bathroom and back! I named him Swiper!

When we were at the Texas GTG at Potters Creek several people told us not to leave food on the pic nick table or the deer would take it. We had cats and one persistent skunk trying to crash our pot luck.

Judy, what did the squirrle do when he realized you were a person and not a tree?

Martha - remember I had those deer that were actually watching me cook on my cooking table? I have pics of one hanging its head over the windscreen drooling.

I got chased around our campfire once by a racoon that was after my marshmallows! :o

Once I realized I had a squirrel on my lap, I jumped up and knocked him off with my arm. He or she was obviously looking for food. A lot of people had been ignoring the signs and feeding them, obviously, so he was very bold. And I did not even have any food on me!

I like wildlife, but not crawling up on me. The deer at Potter's Creek were obviously used also to being fed. There was a lady just across from me who I saw feeding them bread, which is not very good for them--sort of like feeding potatoe chips to toddlers.

By the way, my condo association once had a bunch of molted geese get stuck in our recessed pond and starve to death because they could not fly out. It as a real mess and we had to call in animal control people to remove the bodies and the ones who were still alive. It was too late by the time we realized what was happening, but the DNR did tell us the proper food for geese or ducks in an emergency was dry dog food, not bread!

Years ago, I lived in an apartment overlooking a pond. Of course people fed the ducks and geese, despite all the rules about it. One day I stepped into the hall and found three ducks waddling along! :o

When I looked toward the outside entryway, I could see why. The neighbor's 4-year-old was holding the door wide open and giggling.

    Judy... back when I was a kid (loooooooong time ago)
My dad always went hunting and we ate rabbit, phesant, deer, etc. That went
a long way along with our huge garden. Thanks everyone. Not sure what I will
put in the pot yet ;)

And that dead possum still lives on in my house...The Beast was just tossing it around a few minutes ago. It's gotten pretty nasty over time...
