Sightseeing with Friends

Postby retiredhappy » Tue Jan 06, 2009 10:50 am

I've been taking my friends from Mass (Joyce and Donna) to some of our small Texas towns. Of course, Fredericksburg was first. Midweek we drove to Gruene (pronounced Green). Lots of tousist stores and a bar that is popular with bikers on the weekends. Stopped at Camping World on the way home and I couldn't find ANYTHING to buy except for the new Tech Tips book. Sunday we went to Bandera to the 11th street bar. Its a must to see if you're nearby. You gotta love the decor. It was really cold so it was pretty deserted - no horses parked next to bikes.

One of the old churches in Fredericksburg.

We also stopped at Camp Verde. Used to be an army camel corp here in the late 1800's.

Welcome to Texas. Some of our turkey vultures.

I really like that old victorian house. I'd love to live on that second floor and enjoy sitting out on that porch watching the traffic down on the street.

Looks like fun Karen! I drove through Blanco this afternoon, too late to stop, it's on my list for a day trip. The river looks gorgeous and another courthouse square to explore.

really good pictures I agree with Carol that porch is so inviting. Side note one of the history things here in Quartzsite is that it was a training spot for the camels as well (think I've got that right ) there handler was Hi Jolly not how his name was spelled but how it sounded.
