I think this forum, Facebook and chat rooms are all completely different mediums of communication and each fulfills a different level of connecting with others. While I don’t post here a lot certainly doesn’t mean that I don’t usually read it every day and enjoy it immensely. (“Hello, my name is Pat and I am a lurker.”
‘applause’ “HI PAT”) However, I do find that I feel that I need to be a bit more organized with my thoughts before I put something on a thread because it seems more permanent. In addition to that since I haven’t been to any GTG and have only had a chance to meet a few people in person. I often feel like a bit of an outsider and I don’t have much to offer.
If and when I get on the computer before I go to work I do check FB first. The reason for that is that I get news and updates from family and my other friends, not just those of you on this forum. I can write a quick response and not feel like I’m being a slacker!
Chat rooms tend to give immediate gratification. I don’t do chats often, because when chatting in real time a person has to be dedicated to what they’re doing. I’m often making supper and lunch for the next day, doing laundry, visiting with DH, playing with Radar in the evening and I can’t be tied to a computer. Though I do really enjoy chatting on occasion.
I don’t think there is a need to feel that this forum is threatened because of the new FB group. Truthfully, tension is developing that isn’t necessary. It’s really not any different than members who still frequent the “other forum”, RV.net, ORS or many other sites. Variety is the spice of life.
My mind works like lightning...one brilliant flash and it's gone.
